Willie le Roux and Lappies Labuschagne have finally been rewarded with spots in the Springbok training group. They are two of eight that are first timers in Springbok training groups this year. The others are Gio Aplon, Trevor Nyakane, JJ Engelbrecht, Lionel Mapoe, Wiehahn Herbst and Demetri Catrakilis. The group of players will assemble in Durban for the second training camp of the year, before the final squad for the Incoming Tours is selected. Players not considered due to injury include: JP Pietersen, Jaco Taute, Frans Steyn, Johan Goosen, Duane Vermeulen, Pat Cilliers and Frans Malherbe. ... Read Article25 May 2013

Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article20 Aug 2011

@NZINCHINA(NZINCHINA)-487:
Yeah, rugby is a minority sport played mainly by white imperialist and tiny ex colonial countries. Every four years South Africa takes time off from more important matters to remind those aspiring countries who the real rugby boss is.

@David(David)-501: The ABs? Obviously.
20 Aug 2011, 10:50 am
@David(David)-501:
Every 12 years in your case, you didn’t win in it 99′ and 03′.

@wooden spoon(wooden spoon)-491:
I support the All Blacks, have since my Zim days, but I am still shocked when I see the support they get in the cape.
20 Aug 2011, 11:12 am
Desperate? Come on Keo, the Boks have only managed to topple the All Blacks 13 times in 45 starts since re-admission in 1992. That gives a win percentage of 29%. I would say the Springboks are hopeful of pulling off an upset against the current world number 1.
20 Aug 2011, 11:20 am
Another friggen All Blacks supporter in our midst
I’m getting sick of all these fake kiwis.
20 Aug 2011, 11:23 am
Hey Wooden Spoon, I support SA in all other sports, my whole family support Boks, can’t hurt anyone if I support All Blacks. Anyway not in your midst, I hardly ever post….l Enjoy the game
20 Aug 2011, 11:27 am
Good luck to both teams.
Hope there are no injuries either side.
if the Ab’s can coordinate and exhibit error less running rugby then they will win it as there is a lack of pace in the Boks side.
20 Aug 2011, 12:35 pm
@Mary(Mary)-504: there is an official All Black supporters club in PE, are you a member of an AB Supporters club?
20 Aug 2011, 12:49 pm
Good luck Boks.
Think Boks to win this one today. Boks by 7. Just can’t see us losing to a AB 2nd side. If our 1st team lose to their 2nd side, our confidence going into the world cup will take a serious dive.
Go Bokke Go.
20 Aug 2011, 13:07 pm
@Mary(Mary)-507:
Hail Mary.

20 Aug 2011, 13:10 pm
Lol the “real” kiwis who visit this website must just smile and chuckle to themselves and say things such as hail Mary it’s a miracle. I wonder how many born and raised kiwis openly support the Springboks? None, I’d say. Springbok supporters clubs in Wellington for locals? None, I’d say.
These fake kiwis must eff off to NZ if they like it so much.
20 Aug 2011, 13:12 pm
This is so exciting, one would think we only play the kiwis every 10 years, I felt the same excitement for last weeks game and it didn’t disappoint even though we lost.
BUT………………….. this weeks game, we absolutely have to win just to give all these Fake All Black supporters a good ol poke in the eye.
I mean really, did you see the guys on the news trying to do the haka, the ABs would nt have known weather to laugh or cry if they saw it.
I dont give a toss who supports who if it is genuine but to do cos it might be trendy or your friends do, or you look better in black cos its slimming (lol) is pathetic. or even the latest i was told by some one “I only support winners” BAH HUMBUG.
20 Aug 2011, 13:26 pm
Eastern Province should secede from the Republic of Eye Gougers and merge with the Dominion of NZ.
On the TV News tonight, I saw an 8 year African boy do a better haka than Peri.
20 Aug 2011, 13:28 pm
@cane(cane)-514: you can have ‘em all Cane, just send a couple of ships over and take these traitors away. Maybe put them all up on Stewart Island, now there’s an idea.
Go Bokke, only way to make these fake kiwis silent is to consistently beat them at home.
20 Aug 2011, 13:30 pm
Yes compose a haka for the Ab supporters in PE for their incredible generosity.
20 Aug 2011, 13:33 pm
NZ have never won in PE.
We do not want that proud record to tumble too.
20 Aug 2011, 13:34 pm
The Boks are under immense pressure to pull off a win today. If they don’t, it’s back to rehab unfortunately.
They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, “No, no, no”
Yes, I’ve been black but when I come back you’ll know, know, know
I ain’t got the time and if my daddy thinks I’m fine
He’s tried to make me go to rehab, I won’t go, go, go
thanks amy

@wooden spoon(wooden spoon)-512:
Calm down for heavens sake, I was not born and raised in SA. Married a South Africian and moved here. I supported AB’z in Zim, so why should I change.
Relax it’s just a game that should be enjoyed no matter which damn side you support..
20 Aug 2011, 13:37 pm

Hi Cane,
Did you watch the Manawatu game?
Friggen awesome.
20 Aug 2011, 13:46 pm
Mary you could skipper the ship there. New Zealanders are very welcoming as Cane has demonstrated. Just pack warm.
20 Aug 2011, 13:46 pm
Has Keo’s tie already been discussed?
Why is our B team now favourites?
So we are bad because we sent I bad side but it is expected now to win?
20 Aug 2011, 13:47 pm
Maybe co-ordinate the deck games too.
20 Aug 2011, 13:47 pm
All Blacks by 2.
All the support they are getting could be a distraction.
I prefer the seige setting we normaly get from the Veldites. It galvanises a Team. Creates unity and focus.
20 Aug 2011, 13:48 pm
We should have held the World Cup in our winter … only the English would have not suffered
20 Aug 2011, 13:49 pm
Mary, where in NZ are you?
20 Aug 2011, 13:50 pm
@chch(chch)-524:
No chch,
I take you are not refering the humilation in Wgton midweek!
20 Aug 2011, 13:50 pm
all hail the rise of the true leaders of world rugby
As long as the Springboks carry the lardass captain John Smit they don’t stand a chance
20 Aug 2011, 13:54 pm
@cane(cane)-531:
No, the 54-20 win today. Damn they were good
20 Aug 2011, 13:54 pm
@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-532: just the one scapegoat for today Joelskop? That’s very unlike you.
20 Aug 2011, 13:54 pm

@fromthecouch(fromthecouch)-540:
NZRU website says 1pm SA time. They average getting 1 in 10 things correct.
20 Aug 2011, 14:02 pm
At the NZ TAB (betting Shop).
head to h ead.
NZ are paying $1.70
SA are paying $2.05
Not much in it. No Bargains there.
20 Aug 2011, 14:02 pm
@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-532:
Well he’s on the bench today. And I hope that’s where he stays. They can bring Beast on after 55 mins or so and then – bingo- Pdiv will know his starting front row for the WC. Because he will want to get off to a winning start against Wales.
Could be interesting to see Butch and Hougaard in tandem. Could be fireworks there.
And JDV needs a better game as a distributor – I’ve seen him play better rugby than he is currently playing. He needs to bring Jaque into the game more.
20 Aug 2011, 14:03 pm
I may have to mention this more than once so I will get this out of the way now ….. playing Isa Toeava is the stupidest idea ever and I am sick of New Zealand having to put up with GH choosing his lover at every opportunity.
20 Aug 2011, 14:05 pm
@cane(cane)-543:
Where are the B team comments now?
Ok, Afoa and Toeava are most definitely B team material.
20 Aug 2011, 14:07 pm
@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-536:
Easy Skoppie,
You don’t want to peak to soon.

They waited a long time to use the ‘Burger King’ title. I was beginning to think that they were not in SA
20 Aug 2011, 14:11 pm
@chch(chch)-545:
I think it is Your Very Own Wayne Smith who is in love with Toeava.

I’m happy enough to see him get a run.
