Wallabies latest – Genia cleared

Keo.co.za brings you news from the Wallabies’ camp.

Genia cleared – The Wallabies received a significant boost ahead of their Test against New Zealand with news that Will Genia has recovered from injury.

Genia sustained head blows in training on Tuesday but has shaken it off to resume his starting position at scrumhalf.

‘It’s not something too serious. I got a head knock and I felt a little bit foggy at training yesterday,’ Genia told reporters. ‘I pulled out towards the end because I felt a bit off. I got another knock but it was just a shock really. All the signs (now) look good.’

    *****BREAKING NEWS*******

The Boks rugby practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Coach Pieter DeVilliers immediately suspended practice while police were called to investigate. After a complete analysis, experts determined that the white substance unknown to players was the TRY LINE. Practice resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

@wallabie.(wallabie.)-2: @seabiscuit(seabiscuit)-4: Lol i have never heard that one before. I hope the Boks come over there fear in the World Cup. Although I admit I think the first game will be a gees win….we wont go for tries we will just “try” and win the game by any means possible= penalties, drop kicks, maybe even a few tries you neva know. But the boks will still have the last bit of rust to work out in that game.

We need to practice our set moves against Namibia and rack up 100 points!

OK. Genia has been suspected of concussion not once, but twice, this week in training.

Let’s look at the IRB Concussion Regulation:

“A Player suspected of having concussion shall move to Stage 2, the GRTP Protocol, irrespective of the subsequent diagnosis.”

As Genia says: “I felt a bit foggy.” This is a suspicion of concussion. The IRB Concussion Regulation is very clear on this – no scope for argument, and irrespective of subsequent diagnosis, the Player has to go through Stage 2 of the Graduated Return to Play (GRTP) Protocol.

Stage 2 requires a minimum of 24 hours symptom-free between each of the six rehabilitation steps included:

    1) No activity for 24 hours
    2) Light aerobic exercise during 24-hour period
    3) Sport-specific exercise during 24-hour period
    4) Non-contact training drills during 24-hour period
    5) Full contact practice during 24-hour period
    6) Return to play

This means that, from the moment a concussion is suspect, a player cannot play for a minimum of five days.

Except Genia is playing on Saturday! When he should be doing non-contact training drills in terms of the GRTP Protocol!

The ARU is breaking the law! The IRB is very serious about concussions – in their own Regulation: “CONCUSSION MUST BE TAKEN EXTREMELY SERIOUSLY.”

What the hell is the Australian Rugby Union up to! IRB, please step in!
