Hey Keo not sure if you are aware but the term “Pom” is considered a derogatory word. From Wikipedia…’many British people or those of British origin consider the expression offensive or racist when used by people not of British origin to describe English or British people.’
Don’t you think its time to desist from using this word? An analogy is calling a South African a ‘Yarpie.” Simply put its not nice and unnecessary.

@XV(XV)-2:
I have 1000′s of friends in England (possibly hard for some to believe) and Ive always called them ‘Poms’. Ive never had 1 complaint.
Cant say the same about the Irish being called ‘Paddys’ tho, usually too good-natured to say anything, but close mates have said its regarded as derogatory.
I might be naive about ‘Japie’, but doesnt that strictly refer to a ‘farmer’ or specifically ‘Afrikaan farmer’ ? Many people actually thought it was the way Safas said ‘ja’.

@JL1(JL1)-1:
he was overrated in his early days – I fondly recall him having his @rse nailed to the Twickenham turf by Hayman – but he has days when he’s in the mood and can be World class in the loose. He was excellent when downing Aus at RWC’07 and similarly gave ABs a hard time on EOYT’10.
Inconsistent, yes.

The withdrawal of John Smit would be a greater benefit to South Africa than Sheridan’s for England, but not by much.

Oh dear, just as Keo put him in his world No1. line up….
Despite what JL1 says, he will be a loss to our team!

Speaking as the ‘resident female Pom’ here, I can safely say we are not too worried about that term, however if an Aussie dares to say ‘Whinging Pom’ to my face I may be forced to ‘Moer’ him!!

Feel bad for Big Ted, he was looking to regain the form of 2005(Lions) and 2007(RWC). But has been riddled with shoulder injuries.
Luckily Matt Stevens and Alex Corbisiero have been looking good. Matt has been the stand out prop in the Prem since his return and Corbs was brilliant in the 6 nations looking good against on Castro and Mas in olny his first two tests.
RE: Pommie….it stands for Prisoner of Mother England, so no complains here up in sunny Nottingham

@carol(carol)-8: Thanks Black Panther and Carol. I am English and I live in the UK. And trust me it is not an endearing word. if I used it at work it would be a case of shooting oneself in the foot! My point being that its not dissimilar to Japie and I know my SA mates are non too excited about that word.

@XV thats Political correctness gone mad I tells ya.
But in all serious being English and having grown up in SA I got used to being called that and worse so now I just take it with a pinch of salt…hence my moniker.

@JL1(JL1)-1: Interesting that a guy with your scrummaging knowledge would say that, JL1.
I’ve always feared him, even though I think our props have stood up well to him.
Great player IMO.
