Samo wings it for Wallabies - Radike Samo will start on the wing in a shock move by coach Robbie Deans.

Samo is moved from the back row to the back three for Australia’s final pool match against Russia. Luke Burgess is handed a start at No 9, while Berrick Barnes fills the gap at No 12.

Wallabies – 15 James O’Connor, 14 Radike Samo, 13 Adam Ashley-Cooper, 12 Berrick Barnes, 11 Drew Mitchell, 10 Quade Cooper, 9 Luke Burgess, 8 Ben McCalman, 7 David Pocock, 6 Scott Higginbotham, 5 Nathan Sharpe, 4, James Horwill (c), 3 Sekope Kepu, 2 Stephen Moore, 1 James Slipper.

    Thank goodness, Deans has completely lost it just before the QF’s! I look forward to seeing Quade scrumming against Beast next week and Genia being deployed as primary lineout king pin against Vic.

    Jim Williams did the wing/nbr 8 gig as well. I think Robbie is being sensible in protecting players who are not match fit against a side they should beat in second gear.

    This probably indicates that Barnes will be at 12 and AAC will be at 13 for the quarter final.

    Tinkerbelling seems to run in Antipodean blood come closer the knockout round…He was part of the AB coaching staff when Mitchell tinkered in 2003 and put Leon MacDonald at 13 in semi…Then Mortlock tore him a new arsehole.

    A brand new centre patnership,with McCabe/Faingaa/Horne all nursing injuries and having not played well in this world cup-all the midfield combos are going into knockouts with little to no cohesion or reasonable gametime.

    A brand new frontrow,even though they need as much time together as possible since they got snorted by Ireland.

    Ben McAlman is a joke at 8. Rather Higginbotham who actually makes an impact.

    Maafu as COVER at prop….Bwahahahahaha

    What on earth is Deans smoking?
    Yes, it’s Russia and Oz should win at a canter.
    But they play the Boks next.
    Surely he should field his best available team/combinations to build confidence for the play-offs?????
    Deans, Lievremont… suddenly PDV seems like a sensible coach!

    Hi boys, enjoying the WC, this is perfect, the spot light is off us, where not expected to win, The Wallabies never play well when where the favourites,

    It’s amazing how coaches seem to go a little silly at the WC. However I think Deans has finally picked his strongest center pairing, but Samo on wing is a little silly.

    Things aren’t exactly going according to plan for poor Deans…

    @race of tan(race of tan)-17: I know yes thats why i suggested it. I think Div also said something like that during the week. He said there is players in the forwards who can possible play at the back. players? Spies? and who else was he refering to? Schalk at flyhalf?

    Samo on the wing is not so far fetched because the Boks coaching staff with their 5/2 split against Samoa must think that No 8 Spies can also cover the wing if more than 2 of our back line players must be replaced during the game.
