Duane Vermeulen is out of the June Tests. Stormers strong man Duane Vermeulen returned home from the Stormers Super Rugby tour because of injury and conservatively won't play again until July. It could be that he is out for the remainder of the Super Rugby season as well because of knee ligament damage. Stormers loose-forward Rynhardt Elstadt is also out for at least six weeks as the Cape-based franchise's season went from bad to worse in Sydney. Vermeulen, Meyer's first choice No 8, will be nursed back to action for the Rugby Championship in August. His injury means a likely Bok start ... Read Article20 May 2013
GREGOR PAUL, in the Herald on Sunday, writes world rugby will get its integrated season after the 2015 World Cup and Super Rugby won't break to accommodate an international window. Super Rugby will shift to a March start and won't break for test matches, the June window will be shifted to July and all players will have a 14 to 16-week off-season. Other innovative plans are being discussed, such as building a world series of tests in years that fall between the World Cup and British Lions tours. The revolution that All Black coach Steve Hansen called for last week is coming. The players ... Read Article25 Apr 2013
Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article6 Oct 2011

Can’t be an impact player if you can’t make an impact.
Butch is an insurance policy against injury, but a stupid one at that, because De Jongh would have been a real impact player, and in the event of a Steyn injury we could just have slotted Lambie in at 10, with Aplon going to fullback. If we wanted an attacking backline, I can’t think of a better one than Lambie at 10, De Jongh at 12, Hougaard at wing and Aplon at 15.
Nowhere does Butch fit into this picture.

Give it a rest Ryan.

Taahirah
He can’t. He is contractually required to write at least one pro Butch story per day.
If he can slip in casual references to Butch in other, unrelated articles as well, then its bonus time, and then Keo gives him some extra gas money so that he can run the campervan’s heater all night long. It gets cold down there close to the Antarctic circle, and no one wants to rely on long johns and OB’s to make it through the long night.
Hence, sacrificing journalistic integrity in exchange for the basic neccesatities of life is not a difficult choice to make, I guess.
You can’t judge a person until you’v been in their shoes, so give Ryan a break man. He does what he has to.

I am not going to be negative.
I am a bit superstitious about bad karma.
So I will simply say …
No Comment.

Good morning all.
alweer Butch?
6 Oct 2011, 07:52 am
I’m not sure that having an attacking backline is what our coaching staff has in mind. It certainly did not appear to be their plan when we beat the AB’s a few weeks back, by being defensive and making sure we made our kicks. Viewed in this light I can see why they selected Butch ahead of JDJ as they probably see Butch as more of a defensive threat
Not saying I agree, just trying to understand the logic

I mean, if it was a straight choice between snuggling up to Cardinelli in that beat up old campervan for some shared body heat, and churning out another Butch article I’d also be writing Butch up as the man Dan Carter looks up to.
Thankfully, I don’t have to make that choice.

It was Butch who closed out the game v Australia in 2010 to ensure the Boks avoided the whitewash.

I’m still not going to the Keo store to buy the book. If there’s nothing in his book about deliberately compromising teams with his kak tackling, its a kak book. For god sake stop promoting the guy. Its annoying and you’re embarrassing yourself.

Bulls ditch Bees Roux, well good for them
6 Oct 2011, 08:24 am
This is finals, knockout rugby people. And picking Butch on the bench is an absolute necessity with F Steyn out for good.
If M Steyn goes down with 20 mins to go and there are 3 points in it, would you all really be comfortable seeing Lambie go to 10 and Aplon go to 15?!
In WC quarter final?!
Against Australia?!
Give me a farking break the lot of you.
Picking Butch, a WC winner already, on the bench is an absolute must.
6 Oct 2011, 08:25 am
@President_of_the_Sharks_rugby_experts(sharks_lover)-25: Its a perplexing move though, they renewed his contract at the end of last year. Surely it wouldve been the more ideal situation to simply not do that?
6 Oct 2011, 08:30 am
@Taahirah(Taahirah)-27:
Aparently he was seen training with the Pumas without permission. Thats actually the reason he was called in for a hearing. Not because of the cop thing.
I think the Bulls are just happy to not have to deal with the publicity of playing a cop killer.
6 Oct 2011, 08:31 am
@John Galt(John Galt)-28: I know but I have a sneaky suspicion they using that as an excuse to get rid of him now.
6 Oct 2011, 08:32 am
Out of interest, does anyone know how many times the Boks have beaten the All Blacks with Butch plaing at 10?
I seem to recall that Jake’s Tri Nations win in 2004 involved only 1 win over NZ, and that was with Pretorius as flyhalf. Can’t remember who played in 2005, or in the 1 point Rustenberg win in 2006.
But I would venture a guess that in his short career Morne has more wins over the All Blacks under the belt than Butch in his entire career.
And this despite Morne playing in a team coached by Divvy and saddled with a bunch of old **** players.
6 Oct 2011, 08:36 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-30: I dont think any – ***** was flyhalf in 2004 when they won the comp at Ellis – i think ?
6 Oct 2011, 08:37 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-14:
Surely it was more than just that. It was a gym changing room for goodness sakes.
Perhaps it was the hard on or masturbaton that pushed it over the edge?

Hehe.
6 Oct 2011, 08:46 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-30: Pretorius was the flyhalf in Rustenburg as well.
6 Oct 2011, 08:46 am
@Dawn(Dawn)-38: All the right people?
So who are the wrong people to insult?
6 Oct 2011, 08:46 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-30: ***** was 10 when the team won in Dunedin, not so?
6 Oct 2011, 08:48 am
@Taahirah(Taahirah)-41:
The good guys, obviously.
6 Oct 2011, 08:48 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-30:
Butch has played in 10 tests against NZ and scored a total of 20 points and the Boks have registered 2 wins.
6 Oct 2011, 08:48 am
So is this another lame attempt to punt Butch’s book.
6 Oct 2011, 08:49 am
@Brads(Brads)-32: well apparently he first exposed himself in the sauna and THEN in the shower cubicle tapped to get the boy’s attention and carried on pulling the wire. Supersport are just giving him time to sort the case out without them being dragged in the mud.
6 Oct 2011, 08:50 am

thank you very much transformation.
