PdV: I didn’t quit
10 Oct 2011
Peter de Villiers says that he hasn’t resigned but admits that he won’t be re-applying for the Springbok coaching post when his contract expires on 31 December.
De Villiers said it was the end of the road for him as a coach following South Africa’s defeat to Australia on Sunday. However, he sought to clarify that he did not mean that he would quit his post immediately, as he still has several months left on his contract with Saru.
‘No, I never resigned, I was just saying it was the end of the road. It’s logical, I have a four-year contract and I’ve known all along that this day would come. I will live and die by that contract, which ends in December and then I won’t have a job,’ De Villiers told a news conference.
‘After the match I didn’t feel in control. People want security and I was the only coach at the tournament who didn’t know his future. But the writing is on the wall, I will read it and move on.’
Meanwhile, former Bok coach Jake White has announced that he is interested in leading a new generation of Boks in 2012.

Pity they won’t sign up Jake. He would be an excellent option. Under-appreciated man.

@funkyzoo(funkyzoo)-1: fully Agree!!!!PDV should have read a copy of Jake’s book……..

We need someone like Jake to rebuild. A talent builder is required as the retirements of older players will stream in. Although Jakes team did not go far this WC it is notable that the bulk of his team were still playing in 2011. SA needs a finder and builder of talent.

Devilliers the King of stupid speech. The whole world reported he quit, now we discover he is still the coach. He can’t even leave properly. The only thing that saved our coaching staff a lashing was the terrible ref. Our boys were the best but there was no coach plan to unlock the Aussies and open the scoreboard. Imagine if Deans was the Bok coach. The score would have read. SA 45 AU 11.

that correct PDV after your contract expires you won’t have a job.
Its probably the only correct thing you have said in 4 years.
We deserved better and you were handed a job out of your depth. We are all the losers in this.

No we don’t need Jake again. For all the good he did he is one dimensioned in his approach and there is a reason we change coaches and that reason is to bring new ideas and ways of thinking. We need a coach who can take the Boks and teach them to play clever rugby again. Not just battering ram dom rugby. We need a coach who will teach our players to think about what they are doing and not just kyk noord en v*k voord, a coach who can guide players to making decisions on the run in pressure situations and a coach who can teach our players to adapt to the situation. It may well be time to bring in, possibly an international coach like Eddie Moans but if we have to pick a South African coach then if he would ever consider it again Nick Mallet should be on that list. I hope however unlikely as it may be that this change involves the change of administration as well because they need to carry some of the burden as well.

jake white…. who couldn’t see the need for deck players/fetchers….?? wow you’re right – he was ahead of his time. Ya china, Heinrich can fetch my beers and Pocock wouldn’t make the Springbok side…..Come on
Also, which international coach would work within the ANC strict counter-apartheid rules?
Can you imagine John Mitchell getting tuned he must select 4 POC’s…..yeah right. And that aspect will be a non negotiable part of the job description

“But the writing is on the wall, I will read it and move on”…..
You don’t actually read it….and nobody really writes anything Peter, it’s merely a saying….

We don’t need to rebuild. We need transition. If we had been replacing and updating personnel as we should have in the last four years we have very little need for change. The main difference between now and 2003 is that our provincial franchises are more professionally run and the coach had more polished players to choose from. What we fo need is s coach with s clue, with conviction and a gameplan. Four years in neutral cannot be repeated.

But the writing is on the wall, I will read it and move on.
Funny as it may be, I won’t miss him or his peculiar use of the language.

So here I am……..missed the entire Bok campaign – didn’t bother to watch pool games, too much work, then sets the Time Warner cable receiver to record SA vs Oz – get back from vacation – only to realise NOTHING taped, channel was offline.
Dream final:
NZ vs Wales
Rooting for both, but hope for NZ sake they bury this ******.

What’s wrong with the following?
Head Coach: Allistair Coetzee
Forwards Coach:Matt Proudfoot
Backs Coach: Paul True
Technical Analyst: Rassie Erasmus
Skills Coach: Sheryl Calder
Kicking Coach: Percy Montgomery
15.) Jaco Taute
14.) JP Pietersen
13.) Johann Sadie
12.) Frans Steyn
11.) Gio Aplon
10.) Pat Lambie
9.) Francois Hougaard
8.) Schalk Burger
7.) JuanSmith (c)
6.) Heinrich Brussouw
5.) Andries Bekker
4.) Flip van der Merwe
3.) Jannie Du Plessis
2.) Bismarck du Plessis
1.) Beast Mtawaria
16.) Chilliboy Rallepelle
17.) Guthro Steenkamp
18.) Gerhard Mostert
19.) Willem Alberts
20.) Sarel Pretorius
21.) Elton Jantjies
22.) Juan de Jongh
And for all those who are saying Heyneke should be there instead of Allistair, here’s the truth: Allistair is favoured by the rugby administrators and Heyneke not.
Have your say
