Yea I agree Sjambok.

Burger still has the highest work rate in the team although up to 50% less than Mcaw( on his god day)-- Mcaw aint human.
DeVilliers I like him but as you say, does have thoes weaknesses, but sometimes if he is following orders that might be protocol. It is fustrating going back years and years, players failing to get the ball wide when space and winger is begging. Its not just DeVillers its all the backs.- lack vision.

Have you noticed Burger sometimes, he runs forward then turns his back into the opposition. Its laughable at times because a savy player could just stand there with folded arms and just still his foot out and Burger would still eat grit.
He looks like he could add a few stone to his upper torso, looks chestless.

All we need is balance between the backs and forwards. The backs would then put ties away.

But first they need to go play sevens and learn the SIDE STEP. Sweet Jesus, do we have to spell it out for them! Its so escencial in todays rugby(last few yrs) and we cant seem to put it into our arsenal. This should be taught at school level. But the lighties coming through and the oldies moving on Hougard, Aplon etc will bring this dimension in a little.

under JW era I didnt think we played boring rugby. The Boks should not be blamed, either. Its the politiions who feel racism should live on ( PDV selection) should be blamed.

Playing non-boring rugby tales a lot more than merely gifted runners with good lines.
1) It takes forward domnance.
2) it takes having gifted ball player loosies that are good link men between the forwards and backs.
3) It takes loosies and backs with good handling an passing skills and
4) a flyhalf that varies their game constantly to keep defences guessing in order to make space for running in tries at the next set piece.

We have 1).

I looked at that Aussie game again (first time I could bear to today). I did this to establish what caused a breakdown in our moves and momentum all the time (beside blatantly illegal play at rucks).

I found a few players that were consistently bad and caused breakdowns in our attacks. These were:
1) Schalk Burger
Our main "link" man cannot pass, either passing behind or to nobody in particular, and causes us to lose momentum,.
He also constantly takes the ball into contact usig bad technique, and despite not having any support behind him. In short, he does not thnk at all. He has a lot of energy for tackling, adand crash balling (badly) but that is about it.
2) Jean de Villiers.
A great runner. A useless team man, never looking for support until its too late. Literally blew two tries. One by not looking for Habana on an inside shoulder in what was actually a PLANNED move (so he KNEW Habana would be there). Always wanting to go further hmself after having created a gap, when he should be looking for support and people in more psace than he. People say he is a playmaker. He is NOT. Playmakers create space for others. He is too selfish.

With these two guys being clueless as to how to use and make space for others, our backline is ALWAYS sunk.

I've just watched a replay of the game and it was clear that the main problem was that the Boks stopped thinking and reverted to the power game.

Lawrence is a dreadful referee but his sins affected both sides. The Aussies realised how the land lay and acted with more smarts.

The Boks lost principally because they kept knocking the ball on, passing it forward, kicking it away and generally not respecting possession. They had plenty but at crucial moments they gave it up.

Funny how all the journalists were initially saying that SA should rather stick to traditional strengths and that and that it doesn't matter if the rugby's "boring" so long as the result's right. Now they're all changing their tune completely, although they'll doubtless have several excuses ready pretending they aren't being completely contradictive.
Sadly it's all rather predictable. Would be nice if some ever had the balls to fess up.

Carel Du Plessis being fired have little to do if any of those so called reason you posted etc.

He had a 33% win ratio.

Lost vs B & I Lions in 97' who were complete underdogs

Made the most perplexing of swlwctions from Russell Bennett,to Danie van Schalkwyk etc

Most of all he wasnt qualified, period. His CV is probably the thinnest in Bok history. He was a romanticized choice.."Prince of wings" as coach, hhmmmm broederbond that sounds pretty good dont it?

He was at best a skills coach/backline coach. He did unearth a lot of fine talents like Montogomery,Snyman,Erasmus,Slapchips etc but he wasnt fit to be a head coach. He is very much in the Wayne Smith mould except without all the Sader success....
