Willie le Roux and Lappies Labuschagne have finally been rewarded with spots in the Springbok training group. They are two of eight that are first timers in Springbok training groups this year. The others are Gio Aplon, Trevor Nyakane, JJ Engelbrecht, Lionel Mapoe, Wiehahn Herbst and Demetri Catrakilis. The group of players will assemble in Durban for the second training camp of the year, before the final squad for the Incoming Tours is selected. Players not considered due to injury include: JP Pietersen, Jaco Taute, Frans Steyn, Johan Goosen, Duane Vermeulen, Pat Cilliers and Frans Malherbe. ... Read Article22 May 2013
Ryno Benjamin brought in ahead of Raymond Rhule for Port Elizabeth clash. Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has kept the rest of his team unchanged, hoping the momentum from the Reds victory will lead them to a win against the Kings. That does mean that Burton Francis remains out of the match 22, Elgar Watts continuing ahead of Riaan Smit, who is on the bench yet again. Willie le Roux and Lappies Labuschagne will use this match to show why they have been included in the Springbok training squad. Both will be pushing hard to be among the final names for the upcoming Incoming tours against Italy, ... Read Article25 Apr 2013
Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article20 Oct 2011

Sharks fans holding out any hope that Francois Steyn may return to the team once his French contract expires next year are, unfortunately, in line for a hard dose of reality. Steyn will not return to the Sharks.
Reliable information suggests that Steyn will play for the Cheetahs on his return, with their inability to offer him a competitive salary not an issue, given how lucrative his R30-Million stint in France has been. The reality is that for Steyn to return to South Africa, his reasons would have to be about lifestyle, not money, since no local team – and that includes the Sharks – could possibly offer him an equivalent deal to the one he has with Racing Metro.
Steyn is looking for a stable team environment, with guarantees about game time as the first-choice inside centre and given that he enjoyed neither of these things while in Durban, our sources indicate that he won’t return there. The message to Sharks fans, in short, is “move on”. Frans Steyn isn’t coming back, so we’ll need to back the players currently in the system.

@Transformation(Transformation)-658:
Indeed I said this some time ago.
No team in SA can come close to his salary.
So it would have to be about game time and playing environment.
So obviously the Bulls.

@Helen(Helen)-654: Hello Dahlink!
20 Oct 2011, 15:46 pm
@Gunther(gunther)-659: @Transformation(Transformation)-658: Well if it’s “lifestyle” that he’s after then it;s the Cape for him for sure. We can offer him a decent salary and after jean and jaque leave at the end of next year it’ll be him and Juan at 12 and 13 respectively so it all fits in perfectly.
Wee Pee it is then
20 Oct 2011, 15:48 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-658: I cant blame Steyn for not wanting to go back to the Sharks , Muir nearly ruined this amazing talent at the Sharks and IMO was the main reason why Steyn left for overseas

White ignoramuses who can only function in FANTASY mode are for the rest of their lifetime totally irrelevant to the S.A. situation.
More so is especially the case when they cannot tell an ANC slogan(admitting corruption) from a globally acclaimed SACOS dictum(NO NORMAL SPORT …).
Why attach importance to an insignificant EPpotential official when the CSA CEO, Majola , is the biggest thief in S.A. cricket or is a small time crook more important than the agenda of ETHNICITY for some delinquents?
20 Oct 2011, 15:51 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-661:
apparently he wants to play for a team that has won a trophy in the last decade.

20 Oct 2011, 15:54 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-665: So you are saying the Bulls dont have a decent 12 – lol
20 Oct 2011, 15:55 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-658: As a Sharks fan i must say we do not deserve him back. I remember many a time sitting in the stands while sharks supporters heckled him for not passing or when he tried something different. He was also messed around playing a different position it seemed like every week. I hope they do not continue to make the same mistake with Lambie.

WHITE IGNORAMUSES

@ET.(ET.)-663:
ET, do you ever answer any questions?
I have posed a number of questions to you over the past few days, all of which remain unanswered.
If you insist on only spewing racist accusations and not answering questions, then don’t blame me if I don’t engage you in future
Don’t worry, I don’t see you as a failure, only an unrealised potential ar$ehole

it is those little victories that you guys have to hang on to.
Also, don’t forget you are the most southern team of all the SA francises. Pity there is no trophy for that

Pretty sad though. I don’t watch cricket anymore because it has become a farce. I must say I have had that feeling about rugby after watching Stu Dickenson, etc. Anyone remeber the 2003 Trinations against the kiwis how bad he was. Thats the same year when when Piet van Zyl tackled the ref.
20 Oct 2011, 16:10 pm
i can tell you one thing though, this francois steyn is shaping up to be the biggest primadonna ever…”guarantees of game time” really? what if the guy vying for your spot is sshit hot, the coach must bench him cos u’ve got a “guarantee”?
oh and what about your weight? can we put it on the contract that you won’t balloon past 105kg?
20 Oct 2011, 16:11 pm
@Gunther(gunther)-680:
WP play by the P Divvy doctrine of not looking at the trophy cabinet or the score board.
It is a mere distraction.
How you lose is more important.
On that score, WP are the champs!
20 Oct 2011, 16:12 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-683:
105kg is too low as a threshold.
Ricky January played international rugby at 114kg
