Willie le Roux and Lappies Labuschagne have finally been rewarded with spots in the Springbok training group. They are two of eight that are first timers in Springbok training groups this year. The others are Gio Aplon, Trevor Nyakane, JJ Engelbrecht, Lionel Mapoe, Wiehahn Herbst and Demetri Catrakilis. The group of players will assemble in Durban for the second training camp of the year, before the final squad for the Incoming Tours is selected. Players not considered due to injury include: JP Pietersen, Jaco Taute, Frans Steyn, Johan Goosen, Duane Vermeulen, Pat Cilliers and Frans Malherbe. ... Read Article24 May 2013

Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article20 Oct 2011

He was playing for Griquas at the time !!

@grant10(grant10)-147:
next captain will be somebody short term, like skalk or jean.
Possibly they’d consider a longer term investment like frans steyn as captain?
Personally, I think the new coach will wait and see what happens in the s15.
20 Oct 2011, 09:53 am
France have been firing blanks the whole tournament. There is just one live round in their russian roulette chamber.
Written off, derided. Kiwis are already celebrating.
Sunday could be the day the live one fires.

@DocNZ(DocNZ)-149:
I wouldnt worry about HG.
We all know if the ABs lose he would be on here,being all French, like he has won the RWC.
But the joke will be on him screaming NZ have rigged the cup,paid the refs and corruption throughout the IRB over the last week and a bit.
He would be foolish to gloat.

@Hurricane(Hurricane)-146:
That the Aussies played so badly and didn;t give you a real test.
With Cooper playing like a dog that had been beaten into submission it was a shocker.
The Aussies had a shocker against us but won because they were allowed to steal our ball at will, Joubert was much better in that respect and Pocock only got minimal turnovers.
AB’s played well but were’t really challenged at scrum or line-out time. You guys had all the ball and could attack phase after phase. We attacked phase after phase and as soon as we get into teh 22 Pocock is allowed to take the ball, or someone is lying on the ball slowing it down, or coming in from the side, or offside.
I don;t whine about ref;s – you can check 7 years of Keo posts. But that was a shocker and resulted in a **** Semi because Aus just had a **** WC. Lost to Ireland, should have lost to us and lost to you.

Next captain , from the mouth of P Divot , Chilli boy… said on boots and all.

@grant10(grant10)-148:
I think teichmann was the most at fault for that try. Dawson got away from joost but teichmann was tracking perfectly to push him into touch, until he got “sold”

Henry has made 1 serious mistake this year, and that was not taking his best team to SA and the AB’s got dealt to accordingly.
He left selection of his best 22 for the final but they were not a cohesive unit by any stretch of the imagination due to the decision he made with the trip over to SA and splitting the squad up. All the while, Aus were training for the decider as if it was a WC final
The mistake he made of course was not winning the 3N when he had the talent at his disposal to do so. The question that we will never know the answer to is this.
Had Henry won the 3N by putting out his top AB team in every game, would there have been anything left in the tank to be were they are now?

@Mike H(Mike H)-155:
France in the FInal after 2 pool loses, totally outplayed by a 14 man Wales. Beat a **** Engalnd side that went to NZ to party not play rugby.
I thought wales were the best thing about this WC. They were magnificent and should be in the final.
20 Oct 2011, 09:57 am
@DocNZ(DocNZ)-156:
doubt it, he’s improved a lot in the past season but he will not keep bismark out. And the coach will want to select his first squad on form. I see skalk getting it for a season or so.

@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-153:
You are just making things up.
Kiwis are celebrating??
Are you in NZ or are you all of a sudden listening to the media?
I am not celebrating and i am not taking this game as a win of any sort.
We havnt played the damn game.
I am not going to fall into your trap of already beating the Ozzies and getting ready for the ABs in the semi final.
20 Oct 2011, 10:00 am
Next Bok captain will be a caretaker while the next generation is being groomed.
Probably Burger, although he isn’t really prime captaincy material. He is more of a stormtrooper.
Next long term captain..hmm…might be someone like CJ Stander or even Juandre Kruger.
20 Oct 2011, 10:00 am
@Brigadier Van Zyl(Brigadier Van Zyl)-145: He moved to WP. Edrich looked very promising, many comparing him to Tjol Lategan.
20 Oct 2011, 10:01 am
@Brigadier Van Zyl(Brigadier Van Zyl)-152: bissy for cappie….?
New coach must watch super 15 like a hawk…..form players must be chosen….we must forget this kak about experience et al and at all costs…..
We must become more innovative and find a 10 that can general the team and call the shots….
FDP had far too much influence on the bok game plan imo….
Choose a passer / sniper at 9……..someone like vermaak or sarel pretorious….
20 Oct 2011, 10:03 am
Wales were the best thing about this WC – Warburton is a find of note and Jamie Roberts running at people is a site to behold.
NZ vs Wales Final would have had my serious interest.
Can;t believe the c r a p French are there. This is not a good French team. Not like 2007.
AB’s are going to destroy them
20 Oct 2011, 10:03 am
@Brigadier Van Zyl(Brigadier Van Zyl)-157: of course it was the souties fault bud….heavens my man…it could never be saint joosts fault…..
20 Oct 2011, 10:03 am
@Mike H(Mike H)-155:
The ozzies defended superbly as they did against the Boks.
They didnt win the tri nations by a fluke. They know how to win and have looked good over the last couple of years.
Our plan was to attack Cooper, find him where ever he stood,run at him or kick to him.
Pocock we took out of the game, notice all the ball carriers actually ran at Pocock, again a great plan to take him out of the game.
Really the coaches did the homework on how to counter the Ozzies main strengths.
The team accomplished that plan.
Ozzies didnt play bad at all, they were outplayed and outplanned.
20 Oct 2011, 10:03 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-164: Or we bring back Barney from retirement alla Os for a final fling. Zimmerframe and all.
20 Oct 2011, 10:03 am
Brads , no team that has won the 3N , has won the RWC in the same year …. History proved this again at RWC2011 . We have been told , it would be better to loose the 3N and win the RWC , than to win the 3N and loose the RWC.
HG , you really are bitter and dripping with hatred , you have my sympathies. Dont worry it is only 4 more years .
20 Oct 2011, 10:03 am
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-153:
“Written off, derided. Kiwis are already celebrating…………………………………”.
I can assure you, no one in NZ has written off France.
You,
LOSER!
20 Oct 2011, 10:04 am
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-163: Translation from Midi Olympique (French rugby site)
“But something strikes when you see the All Blacks: their relaxation. Not to mention the press and the fans that leave “no chance” for the French for this game, the next great “relax” that Graham Henry’s players are thinking? Of course, press discourses are policed ??and all say they are “wary” of the “unpredictable French,” but little signs speak. And one wonders if the vigilance demanded by Graham Henry is really there.
Is it possible that subconsciously, New Zealanders still underestimate the Tricolores, despite the defeats of 1999 and 2007? Hard to say.
The pressure is there, of course, because the All Blacks are sentenced to victory on their soil, but it is a paradoxically weaker than before the game against the Australian false brethren. The extreme tension that prevailed last week is gone. “Confronting the Australians, it was our” big game “of the competition, one that should have been played in the finals” , said one New Zealand journalist. The All Blacks have already made ??their feat by dominating the World Cup and outperforming the Wallabies on Sunday. The French, themselves, have not yet realized their game.”

@justrugby(justrugby)-159: LOL
I will never forget walking out the stadium to the sound of the lions fans singing……what a farken test match…..
20 Oct 2011, 10:04 am
@DocNZ(DocNZ)-156: liar, he said if he continued as coach his captain would be schalk burger and a guy who he thinks possesses the requisite leadership skills is spies, he would invest in him but a guy who has it ALL now and is ready is chiliboy but then there’s the bismarck issue again so he wouldn’t go there.
20 Oct 2011, 10:05 am
@Mike H(Mike H)-167: I reckon Gatland would have given the ABs real trouble. Wales is team on the up. ABs would have won it still, but much better contest
20 Oct 2011, 10:05 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-164: hehehehe cj stander GTFOH bwahahhahahahahaha
20 Oct 2011, 10:05 am
@grant10(grant10)-166:
Picking on form and discarding experience as the bottom line rationale would have resulted in half of this crop of AB’s not being selected.
20 Oct 2011, 10:06 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-164:
Next permanant Bok Capt, Luke Watson.
He is truely loved by all decent citizens of SA.
20 Oct 2011, 10:07 am
@Bismarck Burger(Bismarck Burger)-170: do you want me to farken emigrate my man?

20 Oct 2011, 10:08 am
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-173:
agghh there we go, you actually have no proof but taking snippets from the media and journalists.
Thanks HG, you had me worried that i was missing out on the big party in NZ already.
20 Oct 2011, 10:08 am
Bismark for Captain?
Oh my aching sac.
Surely not.
Captain should be appointed a season at a time.
Same with contracts.
20 Oct 2011, 10:08 am
Which team is going to feel like they are going to have to die on the field if they are to actually come close to winning?
Which team on the other hand is relaxed about the game?
Willing to die vs willing to relax…
Will be interesting…
20 Oct 2011, 10:09 am
@grant10(grant10)-180: If Luke is the man, I will pay for the flights! Will he be willing to play against a team called the All Blacks?
20 Oct 2011, 10:10 am
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-183: Thought you were already at the Ticker Tape parade…
Wonder if the etchers have done their work on Bill yet…
20 Oct 2011, 10:10 am
@Bismarck Burger(Bismarck Burger)-176:
lol hang on according to HG we are the ones writing of the French.
Dont tell me our fellow Bok friends are the ones that are actually writing them off?
This match could turn out to be one of the greats,lets just play the game i think.
20 Oct 2011, 10:10 am
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-169:
Yes I agree you did well with Pocock but Joubert was seriously a lot more fair in that department especially after the uproar of our quarter.
Cooper should have shut his mouth. It was less of you nullifying in on the pitch than you destroyed him before he even got on it.
He was terrible agianst the Boks the week before. ANd just as bad if not worse against you.
The crowd, media etc nullified cooper not your tatcics.
Boks would have geiven you a much better game. Line-outs would have been a mission for u, scrums a even contest maybe in favour of Sa n recent form.
Break-down even as McCaw aint what he used to be there and Louw is decent.
Would have been bruising. But i think your AB team is a better side over-all. Grant and yes you need experience, they are the most experience AB side of all time.
NZ v Wale final would have been a fair outcome. A SA v NZ semi where SA lost would have been fair.
Losing to a Aussie team that looked like that peaked in the 3 nations and a ref illegally there by IRB rules, after admitting a hash in a pool game and also a NZ’er and also just a **** ref. WTF!!
Anyway.. i’ll get over it by 2014
20 Oct 2011, 10:10 am
@Gunther(gunther)-184: Yeah, we need to know who the best combo 15 is, from there find a captain.
20 Oct 2011, 10:11 am
@Brads(Brads)-178: balance was completely and insanely wrong in bok team……bottom line mate…an experienced fat cripple slow poke is still a fat crippled slow poke….no matter how you slice and dice it
20 Oct 2011, 10:12 am
@grant10(grant10)-168:
joost had many faults, but teich buying that dummy wasn’t one of then.
20 Oct 2011, 10:12 am
@Mike H(Mike H)-189:
The Aussie team were a bunch of kids, they never had the temperament for a WC.
They should have left in the quarters with the French as well and life would have been in equilibrium
20 Oct 2011, 10:13 am
@Bismarck Burger(Bismarck Burger)-176:
Wales may be on the up, but they are still a work in progress.
They have never beaten NZ in NZ and the last time they did win was in Wales almost 60 years ago.
There is no way they would have rewritten the record books during this RWC event.
20 Oct 2011, 10:13 am
@cane(cane)-179: Yes…I would be happy with that….
but
is he good enough?
If not….then let us never ever farken ever get sentimental and choose for the wrong reasons…..
No more plod eras again …please
20 Oct 2011, 10:13 am
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-188: The reality is that the more they try and convince the rugby world so that they can convince themselves, the greater the pressure. It will come down to 80 min.
The only way I see the french getting there is an early unscheduled happening…intercept/red card/bounce of ball and then hope for AB implode.
20 Oct 2011, 10:14 am
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-187:
And now you think i am at the imaginary parade thats running in your head?
lol
Actually i saw on the news at the start of the RWC the guy that will be etching the winner on the cup.
Hes actually very nervous. He hopes for no spelling mistakes
20 Oct 2011, 10:14 am
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-139:
ja, but he takes it to a whole new level doesn’t he, cos he’s special…in the eyes of the refs.
@Brigadier Van Zyl(Brigadier Van Zyl)-145:
and straight back to nowhere…
20 Oct 2011, 10:14 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-175:
Which basically translates to , Burger would be good , but chilli has it all . Make Bismark a prop , or keep him as a super sub. Krusty has all but given chilli the position and the title. Burger does not stand out as a leader. Spies , yes heard that uttered as well, first thing that came to mind was , “The invisible man has a voice?” .
Juan Smit , would be my call. Not because he plays for the Cheetahs
.
20 Oct 2011, 10:15 am
@Brads(Brads)-194: Agreed, but the base material is there-no doubt. And the tragic red card exit will only strengthen them going forward
