Duane Vermeulen is out of the June Tests. Stormers strong man Duane Vermeulen returned home from the Stormers Super Rugby tour because of injury and conservatively won't play again until July. It could be that he is out for the remainder of the Super Rugby season as well because of knee ligament damage. Stormers loose-forward Rynhardt Elstadt is also out for at least six weeks as the Cape-based franchise's season went from bad to worse in Sydney. Vermeulen, Meyer's first choice No 8, will be nursed back to action for the Rugby Championship in August. His injury means a likely Bok start ... Read Article19 May 2013
GREGOR PAUL, in the Herald on Sunday, writes world rugby will get its integrated season after the 2015 World Cup and Super Rugby won't break to accommodate an international window. Super Rugby will shift to a March start and won't break for test matches, the June window will be shifted to July and all players will have a 14 to 16-week off-season. Other innovative plans are being discussed, such as building a world series of tests in years that fall between the World Cup and British Lions tours. The revolution that All Black coach Steve Hansen called for last week is coming. The players ... Read Article25 Apr 2013
Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article20 Oct 2011

He’ll go down in a blaze (no pun intended) of glory.
I just don’t know how awkward it must be in cabinet meetings with Fikile, Mothlanthe and Tokyo.
It must be brutal, much like a dinenr date of Bryce, Grant and HG.

Pity that your own 40 million people are dispensable to your own leaders as well.
How come you guys don’t have leaders of true conviction? Why is each guy in it for himself?
You’re a remarkably educated representative of your demographic group, so answer me this:
Why has there not been a leader since you lot took over who has stood up and said, ok, let’s do what’s best for our downtrodden people, and if that means keeping competent non-blacks in their positions so that we can use them to develop the country, so be it.
If that means ministers get to drive Corrollas instead of Beemers, so be it.
If that means sacrificing quick self enrichment in exchange for meaningful longterm development – like China, Japan and South Korea did, then so be it.
Why is it all such an utter disaster?
Do you have a view on this? I’m geniunely interested.

You forget that Zuma was head of ANC intelligence, when it’s main aim was ferreting out informers in its own ranks. Just about everyone was under suspicion then, and he’s now employed most of his senior spooks from those same ranks. The latest being Mac. There are so many skeletons around which he knows about, that he might not be indispensable, but he is almost untouchable if he decides to fight back.
20 Oct 2011, 12:09 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-365: I think he means the leaders of the party.

@Tacitus(Deucalion)-359: are afrikaners a monolithic homogeneous group? why do you assume black people are? don’t be stupid man!

I see some idiot said the world will end on Friday!! lol imagine how ironic that will be for the All Blacks …… fark me!!!

@Lions_is_kak_kak_honde_honde_kak(suffer_guy)-371: Hahahahaa. Aaah fark gotta love humour on this blog sometimes!

It’ll certainly end on Sunday, if they lose.
20 Oct 2011, 12:18 pm
well if the Lions win the CC, the end must be near!
20 Oct 2011, 12:18 pm
@David(David)-367: fair assessment but him and his spooks won’t be able to stand against the ambitions of some of the “careerists” in the party. you ask yourself what happened to the hordes of people who made up the PAC, where do they stand “politically” now. are they also swelling the ranks of the anc in search of instant wealth using state machinery?
even mosebudi mangena got sucked in, are they all for the interest of the people or for self?
smuts ngonyama summed it well about 7 years or so ago when he got questioned about a largesse in the form of telkom shares that came his way, his retort was: “i didn’t join the struggle to be poor”

20 Oct 2011, 12:23 pm
@David(David)-373: I could live with that, but in a way they deserve to win, but something is just a bit fishy about this world cup!
20 Oct 2011, 12:25 pm
@Lions_is_kak_kak_honde_honde_kak(suffer_guy)-371: World may end on Sunday… A bunch of froggies could be sitting on a rugby nuclear button…
Rainbow warrior aint got nothing on what we might see….
20 Oct 2011, 12:25 pm
@>^..^< katman(katman)-343: The thing is Katman, I don’t feel that way for the Boks. I don’t consider them mine.
20 Oct 2011, 12:26 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-375:
The PAC also fell victim to personal power struggles, as you know. I agree that it’s far too easy to generalise about motives, as friends of mine who were heavily involved at various levels are now still working their butts off trying to make a difference in NGOs.
20 Oct 2011, 12:28 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-369:
“monolithic homogeneous group………”
YIP.

@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-379: McCaw will not let those frenchies take his glory! Not this time.
I was watching Reunion last night. Tierry Le Croix comes accross as such a nice guy! Jovial and funny, plus he said sh1*t on tv.
20 Oct 2011, 12:29 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-379: Wonder why the Kiwis dont actually ask themselves why are their refs so poor. Walsh, Honiss,O’Brien, Lawrence, surely it is not incompetence. Its more like years of domination of the Springboks in their youth has made them bitter and pathological cheats!
20 Oct 2011, 12:30 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-377: Look, apart from a few white players who missed out due to quotas, no one has been marginalized for close on two decades now. Does that answer your question?
Now back to my point: If you don’t have an emotional investment in the team you support, your experience is shallow and hollow by comparison. All these Man U fans across the world think they’re it, but their “fandom” is nothing compared to an old man, born and raised in Manchester. Ditto for the international All Black supporters. They’re simply the results of the spread of a global franchise. A marketing success, and little more.
20 Oct 2011, 12:32 pm
@rossoneri(rossoneri)-380: With all due respect, that just sounds like something you say when people ask. They could easily “be yours” but you’ve chosen a cool brand and you’re sticking with it.
20 Oct 2011, 12:32 pm
@Lions_is_kak_kak_honde_honde_kak(suffer_guy)-371: \
If the world should end on Friday, it would be a complete travesty.
Forever, SA and Australia would be locked on Two (2) WC’s each.
And we all know Australia are the superior Team.

20 Oct 2011, 12:32 pm
@rossoneri(rossoneri)-383: His glory? And there I was thinking it was AB glory… no, New Zealand glory… Oh well maybe thats what you get from Caped Crusaders…twisted sense of glory?
Have you organised a little mini ticker tape parade in George yet? They’ve already organised a couple in NZ proper… Don’t get left behind.
20 Oct 2011, 12:33 pm
To my mind the following is happening:
Zuma ushered in a time of uncontrolled and diabolical self-enrichment; that’s from the political side.
Economically, those in control – many who reside in Stellenbosch – are consolidating things, so that not too long in future only a handful of people will control most things in the private sector.
This means that the money flows to a few, whether through above board business or through ‘tenderpreneurial projects’
So the guys in the middle are the losers and unfortunately thats where most South Africans are.
The ANC is reading from ZANU PF’s manual right now of how to sink a country in 2 to 3 decades. What we’re seeing right now is the ‘mugabelisation’ of South Africa.
20 Oct 2011, 12:35 pm
@cane(cane)-387: Hmmm considering they competed in 2 more than the Boks I doubt it, but them most AB followers think Lawrence is a good ref.
20 Oct 2011, 12:35 pm
@Connag(1112Connag)-384:
LOSERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
20 Oct 2011, 12:36 pm
@Connag(1112Connag)-384: I dont know whether you could call them “cheats”… its like calling a vicious dog evil… or a child who commits murder “criminal”… sometimes it could just be that they know no better… part of their nature…
A Kiwi ref by his very nature could just be biased… or dishonest.
Just a theory though, dont take my word for it.
20 Oct 2011, 12:37 pm
@cane(cane)-391: CHEEEEAAATTTEEERRRR
20 Oct 2011, 12:38 pm
@>^..^< katman(katman)-385: how do you value “emotional engagement” can only a born and bred manc have you percieved quotient of “emotional engagement” with Manchester United?
i asked you, “would you vociferously support a Springbok team where whites were marginalised” yes or no?
20 Oct 2011, 12:38 pm
@Sheriff(Sheriff)-389: Hate to agree, but I do..
20 Oct 2011, 12:38 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-392They are incopetent cheats. They have been doing it since 1992.
20 Oct 2011, 12:39 pm
@Connag(1112Connag)-396: m should be a p, p should be an m ….
20 Oct 2011, 12:40 pm
@>^..^< katman(katman)-386: If your analogy is correct, and what I feel for the AB’s is nothing but a marketing success, then I am doomed Katman never to feel what you do for your team, because what I feel for the Boks is tepid at best. It’s what it is and I’ve accepted that.
20 Oct 2011, 12:40 pm
@Sheriff(Sheriff)-389: One admirable thing about big man Zuma is how he totally taught Mbeki the lesson of his political life… Ended his career.
The uneducated cattle herder outmatches the learned intellectual…
Much like the France vs AB matchup on Sunday…
