Fourie set for Japanese stint

Fourie set for Japanese stint

Jaque Fourie has agreed a short-term deal with Japanese club the Panasonic Wild Knights.

There have been reports linking the Springbok and Stormers centre to a move to Japan over the last fortnight. After discussions between the player and the WP union, it has been decided that Fourie will be released to play for the Wild Knights for the duration of their domestic season.

The 28-year-old will return in time for the Stormers’ Super Rugby campaign, that kicks off on 24 February. However, with the Japanese domestic season only ending on 5 February, it means Fourie will head straight into Super Rugby preparations with no break after a busy 2011, which included an extended Super Rugby season, Tri-Nations and World Cup tournaments.

Fourie is the second Stormers player to be sent out on loan to a Japanese club. Flyhalf Peter Grant is currently playing in his second campaign for the Kobe Kobelco Steelers, and will also rush back into Super Rugby next year. Springbok and Bulls scrumhalf Fourie du Preez and lock Danie Rossouw have both signed two-year deals with Japanese club Suntory Sungoliath.

This site has it on good authority that there is an opportunity for Fourie to make a permanent transfer to Japan after Super Rugby. Fourie will have the opportunity to experience Japan and their domestic rugby from October to February, and could be open to a longer deal.

@puff(puff)-43: I think Juan captain option for now. Let Schalk be Schalk.
Bismark to be the captain in 2yrs, by then he’ll be in the ‘captains’ mould.

    @stew(stew)-48: By a fair distance i i remember correctly,

Thing is, and this is where the IRB have a point, is that if it’s allowed to be challenged that way unchecked, that one day soon there will be a ‘contact” incident and all hell will break loose. That would be a very bad day.

The apposing team can do basically whatever they like, as long as it’s in their own half. They can ignore, stand in a circle, face them, turn their backs, it’s all been done at some stage.

Just stay in your half, the AB’s after all stay in theirs.

I don’t see the problem quite frankly

another glowing example of player power …..I would have told J F to take his farken sushi and f off…..these okes are the tail wagging the dog in no uncertain terms…..

Should have kept Sadie ….he , JDV and JDJ….with Whitehead…would have been a great quartet….

But Rassie and AC know better…….ja…of course they do…

    @AVID FAN(AVID FAN)-47:

Coenie Oosthuyzen must be nurtured as the ideal Bok prop cover on both sides of the scrum – fantastic talent.
As far as I know, the rule is 3 overseas-based Bok players can make a Bok squad.
I still think Steenkamp and of course Frans Steyn have a lot to offer.
Gerhard Mostert too, although the young second row stocks are looking good, which I am very relieved about considering the Boks have just lost 3 of the best locks in world rugby (if not THE best).
Not sure what the ruling will be re players who have one foot in the country and one foot out the country ala Sarel Pretorius and Jacques Fourie.
Boks are suddenly looking a bit vulnerable at scrumhalf beyond Francois Hougaard, so potentially both Pretorius and Ruan Pienaar will be in the mix next year.
    Time will tell!

@stew(stew)-48: i say the All Blacks should PAY the fine themselves or the NZRU, france won the toss to wear their original kit but in a gesture of sportmaship allowed the kiwis to wear their black jerseys instead of whatever would’ve been their alternative strip. the irb should bugger off man!

    9) Hougie
    12)Frans

puff #71 – I agree. This nincoln poops asking for all the old heads to be crocked are living in a dream world, the Boks would get hammered without them. JPP is still rahter young and has another RWC in him. Habana, JF, Burger have atleast 2/3 years left in them. JDV maybe another year or s0 but i wouldhave him on my bench anyday.
Also i am afraid that Morne Steyn has still alot to offer Bok rugby, the poor man did not have one single break since 2009!! M Steyn should have had a break till the EOYT!!!

Rugby World Cup Limited Chairman Bernard Lapasset.

The Frenchman stated that the tournament had achieved the key goals of furthering the profile of Rugby and New Zealand around the world.
New Zealand’s 8-7 victory over France in the Rugby World Cup 2011 Final brought down the curtain on a tournament that achieved all ticketing, sponsorship and broadcast targets as more than 100,000 international fans joined New Zealanders in attending matches at Rugby’s showcase event.

“New Zealand 2011 will be remembered as an exceptionalRugby World Cup. It has been a tournament where New Zealand’s rich culture and heritage has gone hand in hand with Rugby’s tradition and values.”

“New Zealanders should be proud of their event. They made it special by embracing the tournament the length and breadth of the country, welcoming all 20 teams and 100,000 international visitors with open arms. It was quite remarkable.”

Lapasset also praised the Tournament Organisers and the spirit of close collaboration that has delivered one of the great Rugby World Cups.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Brian Roche, Martin Snedden and the Rugby New Zealand 2011 team, the New Zealand Rugby Union and the Government for their vision, dedication and hard work in delivering Rugby World Cup 2011 in partnership with the IRB team.

“Their reward is the successful hosting of what will be remembered as one of the great Rugby World Cups, a sporting and operational success.
“New Zealand 2011 has positioned the country as a major event host, a superb tourism destination and a great country. It has also taken our sport to new audiences and has set the bar for future hosts.”

As long as JF is back in time for the S15… I’m not too fussed by him playing in Japan…

It’s hardly the toughest league in the world and he’s unlikely to get injured… and it may be a way for him to keep ‘match’ fit and in touch with his game and he could come back more ‘ready’ than other S15 players in all teams who ‘veg’ over the festive season… although obviously most squads will be in some sort of training…

As far as France getting fined for advancing on the haka… it’s ridiculous…

I’ve always been okay with the haka… although rib some of our kiwi posters about it…. but if the IRB makes laws that the Kiwis can do their haka and prescribe how teams may or may not react to what is, after all, a challenge… then (sorry my kiwi friends…) it is time to get rid go the haka…

how the hell can there be laws in rugby that so obviously favour one team?? (okay four teams but the rule was made for the ABs…)

@grant10(grant10)-80: ideally Spies would go to the Cheetahs and focus on playing good hard rugby with no distractions. I assume the boks have some sort of tradition such as ‘big hit’ of the match, doubt he has or ever will win it.

@ufo(ufo)-82: IRB chief executive Mike Miller told the Herald that teams cannot disrepect traditional aspects of a nation’s cultural heritage by reacting in certain ways to a haka or war dance, and that a harder stance will be taking by the game’s governing body in the future.

“It’s a traditional part of the game,” Miller said.

“If people want to develop something – not a response, not a war dance, but a traditional sporting or cultural way of engendering that team spirit for a match – great. They should be able to and we should create the space to do it.”

“It would be a shame if people said: ‘Let’s do away with it’ or felt the need to do some response that took away from the dignity and power of it.”

“There is the protocol that says let them have the space. We discuss it with everyone before. We say: ‘We are serious about this and that there is a fine’ if they do it. So they can’t say they didn’t know and most people respect that. These cultural parts of the game are important. We should respect them.”
