Burger, Bismarck take top honours
4 Nov 2011
Schalk Burger was rewarded for his excellent World Cup campaign with the 2011 SA Player of the Year award, while Bismarck du Plessis was named the Players’ Player of the Year.
Burger becomes only the fifth player to win the title more than once, having also won it in 2004. He follows in the footsteps of Naas Botha (who won it four times), Uli Schmidt, Bryan Habana and Fourie du Preez (who all won it twice). Du Plessis, who spent most of the World Cup on the Bok bench, was the best player in SA according to his fellow players.
The Golden Lions were rewarded for their Currie Cup triumph with the Team of the Year award, while John Mitchell was named Coach of the Year.

How could Lambie have beaten the “better” Taute and Jantjies?? Oh because he is better!!
3 Nov 2011, 21:09 pm
Lambie is pure class. Taute and Jantjies are arse.
3 Nov 2011, 21:16 pm
Craven Week Player of the Year – signed by the Bulls from next year
U20 Player of the Year – Bulls
Vodacom Cup Player of the Year – signed by the Bulls from next year
Not too shabby for a bad year by Bulls standards.

@Tacitus(Deucalion)-3:
Brace yourself, the Bulls are in for a tough Superugby season.
No Vic, Bakkies and Fourie.
3 Nov 2011, 21:23 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-2: Still bitter about that destruction that happened over the weekend? Farken LOSER…..
3 Nov 2011, 21:23 pm
@Jeraldjay(Jeraldjay)-4:
What does one season matter in the Second Dynasty that we are building?
3 Nov 2011, 21:23 pm
I agree with Tac! Bulls have great youngsters coming through…
3 Nov 2011, 21:24 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-2:
Lambie is overrated. He is a decent player, and a nice poster boy for teenage girls, but let’s face it, he is too slow for most positions in the backline.
3 Nov 2011, 21:26 pm
What the hell did Bambie do to get the award ahead of Taute, I mean Taute is a way better fullback than that slow sheep. Very dissapointing indeed.
Pity the rules preclude Jantjies from winning it two years in a row
3 Nov 2011, 21:27 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-6:
Hope the players adapt quickly to HM new ball in hand playing style.
3 Nov 2011, 21:28 pm
@Jeraldjay(Jeraldjay)-10:
Beware once they do. Bwhahaahhaa!

@Roar my Lions …. Currie Cup Champions 2011(RL)-9: Sometimes retarded people get hold of a keyboard. I blame bad parenting.
3 Nov 2011, 21:31 pm
Lambie saved the Boks on a number of occasions during the World Cup (notably v Samoa) with some superb full-back fundamentals. Is he the fastest? no. Is he fast enough? absolutely.
3 Nov 2011, 21:34 pm
@Roar my Lions …. Currie Cup Champions 2011(RL)-9:
Kicking at poles does not a good player make. Lambie is the whole package…and he’s just getting better.
Next season he gets even better.
3 Nov 2011, 21:34 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-11: Hey, if they adapt quickly I’m happy, because this will surely benefit the Boks.
Skop en jag gave us a World Cup and 3 in row against the Blacks.
3 Nov 2011, 21:34 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-13: Problem with Lamnie is that if he is so slow at 20 can you imagine how slow he will be at 24 – it’s not his fault that the guppy condition coaches have him building muscles around his ankles.
3 Nov 2011, 21:35 pm
@Tuna(Tuna)-5:
bwahahaha
3 Nov 2011, 21:37 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-14:Hopefully the frog stays around to finish his contract, playing at 10 for the guppies.
3 Nov 2011, 21:37 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-13:
I must admit, I have the inherent inclination to see you as a rare neutral contributor to this blog, being an Englishman and all.
But then I have to constantly remind myself that for some bizarre reason you are actually a Sharks supporter. And posts such as this Lamie one, or your support for John Smit etc. shows that most clearly.

@Transformation(Transformation)-17:
Share the joke.
3 Nov 2011, 21:38 pm
@Roar my Lions …. Currie Cup Champions 2011(RL)-18:
Who are the guppies?
3 Nov 2011, 21:39 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-19:
He clearly has high standards.
3 Nov 2011, 21:39 pm
@THE MAULER(Boks still my team)(THE MAULER)-7: no no no! they have PURCHASED good youngsters, the ones they had in their system are kak hence meyer has jettissoned them ie dippenaar, watermeyer, brummer, boshoff!
if you reckon dustin jinka is a good youngster then ek weet nie.
3 Nov 2011, 21:40 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-21: sharkievarkies.
3 Nov 2011, 21:41 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-23:
The Lions will take them.
3 Nov 2011, 21:41 pm
I must say, it was most dissatisfying to see John Smit besmirch what would have been a moving tribute to Victor at tonight’s award show.
The contrast between the two is so striking. One will go down as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.
The other will just be remembered for hanging on about 3 seasons longer than he should have, and costing the Boks a World Cup thanks to keeping the best hooker in the world out of the starting line up.
What a disgrace.
3 Nov 2011, 21:41 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-23:
Indeed. Well done Heyneke for doing what is necessary.
3 Nov 2011, 21:42 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-20: 19:40, 29 October 2011.
The faces of arrogant little turds like you in a black and white jersey.
There is the joke…. get it?
3 Nov 2011, 21:43 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-23: bullies will be the SA team to beat – Matfield and FdP were holding them back last year – they have the best young talent around and the with depth everywhere.
They do not waste their time with has-beens and oupa’s ala sharkievarkies.
3 Nov 2011, 21:47 pm
@Roar my Lions …. Currie Cup Champions 2011(RL)-24:
Still not with you. I know of teams called Lions, Cheetahs, Bulls, The Sharks, Stormers, Pumas, Griffons, Elephants, Boland, Griquas, Spears….not sure who sharkievarkies are.
Are you an adult..20′s…30′s? I’m hoping like heck you aren’t in your 40′s with kids…that would make you a little unfortunate of breeding, maturity and dare I say it…of class? Just saying.
*Smiley face*
3 Nov 2011, 21:47 pm
Great white is a bit sensitief tonight
3 Nov 2011, 21:47 pm
@Tuna(Tuna)-28:
Careful. Make sure you got back up.
3 Nov 2011, 21:48 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-30: oink oink sharkievarkie.
3 Nov 2011, 21:48 pm
Pat Lambie is the Jacques Kallis of rugby. Does all the basic right and has composure in high pressured situations. Kallis achilles was his strike rate and with Lambie it’s his speed.
Lambie’s 21, he still has plenty of time to work on his acceleration off the mark but we all know that composure cannot be taught and he definitely has it.
3 Nov 2011, 21:49 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-26:
gwantie’s going to give you an open mouth kiss
3 Nov 2011, 21:49 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-26:
What did he say about Matfield that upset you doodums?
3 Nov 2011, 21:49 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-3: I see you are happy with the Bully youngster getting SA awards. This morning it was a sham because baas Vic never got anything. So the awards all good now?
3 Nov 2011, 21:50 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-8: He is faster than Wynand Olivier
But then again Wynand and Lambie are over rated
3 Nov 2011, 21:50 pm
@Roar my Lions …. Currie Cup Champions 2011(RL)-16: you may be right that full-back may not turn out to be Lambie’s best position, but I don’t think it can be said he didn’t play well at the WC.
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-19: just fair rugby observations tac, as always
3 Nov 2011, 21:50 pm
@Jeraldjay(Jeraldjay)-34: you lose speed the older you get. If you do mot have it you will never get it.
3 Nov 2011, 21:51 pm
@Jeraldjay(Jeraldjay)-34:
He’ll get there. The kid has potential. Plumtree must step back and only coach the forwards and Bashford must leave. Sean Everitt for The Sharks backline coach.
3 Nov 2011, 21:52 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-30:
rl is the last wit ou still working for spoories
3 Nov 2011, 21:52 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-36:
No, he was just in the same career montage as Big Vic. It deracted from what should have been a moment of awe inspiring reflection, turning into a farce, with everyone inevitably thinking “Jeez John looks fat in those highlight clips.”
3 Nov 2011, 21:54 pm
@Tuna(Tuna)-37:
Just happy that a bunch of talented youngsters are headed for the Bulls, that’s all.
3 Nov 2011, 21:56 pm
@Roar my Lions …. Currie Cup Champions 2011(RL)-29: we’re still to see what these kids can do @ 9. hougaard, vermaak, snyman, jinka
10. steyn, fouche, cronje
11. basson, ???(courtnall skosan)
12. meisiekind, venter
13. sadie, ???
14. jj, ???
15. zane, ???
3 Nov 2011, 21:56 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-44: all the Bulls need now is a good coach. If I were Heyneke I would fire Ludeke tonight, give him that 3am call and replace him with Pine Pienaar.
3 Nov 2011, 21:58 pm
@Dawn(Dawn)-31: quite precious
3 Nov 2011, 21:58 pm
@charo(charo)-42:
His Lions jersey is even from the 80′s.
3 Nov 2011, 21:58 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-45: they should not have let Shadow go, one or two injuries the Aikona will have to be dusted off and oiled up for some action
3 Nov 2011, 21:59 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-45:
Akona Ndungane – the better of the two Ndungane twins – is the other backup wing.
And should we have an injury to a key wing, I am pretty sure Vermaak will slot in at no.9 with Hougaard going to wing for key games.
It is however our loose forwards that are most exciting. We have unbelievalbe youngsters coming through.
