Burger, Bismarck take top honours

Schalk Burger was rewarded for his excellent World Cup campaign with the 2011 SA Player of the Year award, while Bismarck du Plessis was named the Players’ Player of the Year.

Burger becomes only the fifth player to win the title more than once, having also won it in 2004. He follows in the footsteps of Naas Botha (who won it four times), Uli Schmidt, Bryan Habana and Fourie du Preez (who all won it twice). Du Plessis, who spent most of the World Cup on the Bok bench, was the best player in SA according to his fellow players.

The Golden Lions were rewarded for their Currie Cup triumph with the Team of the Year award, while John Mitchell was named Coach of the Year.

    I also don’t think there was a conspiracy.

    I’m just very disappointed in the performances of the referees, which ruined the World Cup.

    They get paid good money (roughly R900,000 average per year I believe, including extra if at World Cup and so forth), so you don’t expect games to be decided by them not carrying out their role efficiently.

    @Finfan(Finfan)-524: How can you say that when SA scraped passed Wales and Samoa? Are you saying the Ab’s would have been easier for the Boks, with the injuries sustained and that that would have been the only way the Boks could have stood a chance? Your view, but I don’t think another team in the world would have played better than France did in that Final, and the Ab’s managed to get more points on the board.

    Fact – Huge reffing discrepancies and farkups in the following games:

    1. Georgia vs Argentina (Rolland)
    2. Aus vs Ire (Bryce)
    3. Wales vs Fra (Rolland)
    4. Aus vs SA (Bryce)
    5. Fra vs NZ (Craig)

    The “Best” WC “Ever”… Refs take centre stage… Paddy for a Knighthood…

    At the very least, rank incompetence, at worst scripted… But its history, AB’s are World Champs despite choking in the final yet again… But Craigie to the rescue bearing gifts :lol:

    I’m prepared to say that Poppa goes bonkers sometimes, but he is not alone my friend. Typical Saffas just see one side of the coin. Go have a look at some of our countrymens posts too. Disgraceful stuff to be sure.

    2. Frustration because he’s not the sharpest tool…
    3. Go off the deep end with Mania descending into some of the worst possible shy’te you can read on Keo
    4. Quiet for a while
    5. Sheepish comeback
    6. Convenient excuse for pity (Health issues, some incident “made” him do it etc.)
    7. Pleasant for a while because he gets enough pity from dumfck Saffa posters
    8. Go to 1.

    He is between 2 and 3 at the moment…
