Smit to wait for Sarries debut
5 Nov 2011
John Smit has been left out of Saracens’ match day squad that will face the Sale Sharks on Sunday.
The retired Springbok captain was given last weekend off after arriving at the Watford-based club a fortnight ago. There was talk that Smit was set to make his English Premiership debut for Saracens’ home game against Sale, but 21-year-old Jamie George has been preferred as starting hooker Schalk Brits’ back-up. The Saracens squad for this weekend’s fixture includes eight Saffas.
Meanwhile, Springbok flanker Francois Louw will make his league debut for Bath against log leaders and unbeaten Harlequins at the Rec on Saturday. The former WP and Stormers flanker delivered a Man of the Match performance in Bath’s 46-14 LV Cup victory over Worcester – his first appearance for the club. Scrumhalf Michael Claassens also features in the starting line-up for the Harlequins clash.
Forgotten Saffa tighthead prop Brian Mujati will be in action on Sunday for Northampton Saints’ away game against London Wasps. Former Bulls hooker Gary Botha is on Toulouse’s bench for their French Top 14 match against Perpignan. No 8 Shaun Sowerby starts for the former.

Schalk Britz? He won’t last long as a starting hooker with Smit there.

Schalk britz is wasted at hooker. Should play 8, similar build to andrew aitken.

Well, he couldn’t even hang around for the CCup semi at home. And now he’s not even on the bench… shows how good he really isn’t.

You said on a previpous thread that you were finally finshed on your extended Smit tantrum.
@goyougoodthing2(goyougoodthing2)-5:
He did not have a Natal Currie Cuup contract. His time with the Sharks ended with the last S15 game.
Shows you how clever you are!

They have always written about Saracens. Should they stop now Smit is there?
Our most capped player ever? And he isn’t news.
Have your say
