Schalk Burger, the 2011 SA Player of the Year, should be the cornerstone of the Springbok side in 2012 and beyond.
Burger, who first played for the Boks in a 2003 World Cup match against Georgia, enjoyed an outstanding tournament in New Zealand, exhibiting the same abrasive energy that marked him as a 20-year-old debutant. He also made use of the experience he’s accumulated over 60-plus Tests, as well as some recently acquired skills, to leave a lasting impression.
The next Bok coach will face the challenge of building a new team and a new leadership group. Burger is certain to be one of the pillars, if not a strong candidate for the captaincy itself. Some tough decisions will need to be made by the coach, and the ageing veterans may need to make way for the promising youngsters, but a clever man-manager will realise that Burger is the kind of player he can build his new team around.

We lost the world cup QF not because of Smit and/or PDV, but due to a variety of reasons (in no particular order):
- Injury to Steyn prior to the game
- injury to Ratel early in the game
- Lawrence’s totally inept performance
- Australian’s balls-to-the-wall defence
- M Steyn’s failure to kick a drop
- backline’s failure to score tries
- JDV’s forward pass to Lambie
- Lambie’s missed drop kick
- Schalk’s turnover that lead to the try
- Danie’s brain dead penalty in the line out
- the inability of super subs Bissie & Alberts to break the line in the last 30 minutes
- knock ons in try scoring positions
- etc, etc

Schalla – arguably one of the most likable rugby players in the country has not yet taken his provincial team to Currie Cup/Super rugby success.
Not sure why there is suddenly this view that WP/Stormers are where we need to look to for national leadership.
It is now 10 years since Province won the Currie Cup; I’ve said a few years ago that they have become a ‘next year team’ in other words, next year we will do this and that, only to express disappointment at the end of the season that objectives were not achieved.
Year after year.
A fear of failure has become part of the WP psyche especially at the business end of the competition and is now 2nd only to the ABs world cup choking.
ABs remain the thought leaders on rugby choking, they are best at it – there can be no doubt.

Some of you are building Bissie up 2 be this infallable super human rugby player which he is not. It doesnt seem 2 matter is u r given proof. Maybe if u cleared your mind and think back you will see that he did nothing fantastic in the last Bok game, stats were posted earlier on, what sticks out is 50 percent tackes missed, go back about a page and read please.
As 4 the Sharks/Lions game, what did he do there ? He was dominated by Lions players most of the game.
Please note, i have not ranted and raved, just told u my opinion with out insulting you and your opinions, because that is what they are. Doesnt matter how many times u repeat something and how nasty u get, it wont make it a fact.

Boks starting with Bismark over Smit and Alberts over Spies and there was NO WAY in HELL Aussie would have gotten near to the lucky win they got..
Burger lost the game because the platform of Smit and Spies was wrong.. Brussow could NOT protect his ruck ball huddle and it was hacked into Aussie hands for a soft try…
Burger LOST the ball on Aussie try line and got it ripped off him when once more he went on one his ineffective solo gain line breaching runs.. so did FdP lose it on the line off a Bismark charge down.. However had Bismark and Alberts started the game it would have been OVER by half time
WITHOUT a DOUBT!!

You need to understad that Ollie Le Roux (ashampoopaloo) will only be happy if Smit is slandered.
You see, Alberts & Bissy broke the line so often in the last 30 minutes of the QF that it makes sense to think they would have dominated that advantage line in the first 50 when the Aussies were even fresher.
I am afraid that arguing with Ollie Le Roux is like arguing with a woman. They do not let things like logic ruin a good ‘bit**ing” session.
I have said the same thing many times, that I would not have started Smit, but alas, some people need something to hold onto. WE lost that QF (and indeed the past 2 years) in my opinion, becaue of our inability to break defences in oiur backs. Hardly a fault of 1 man, but more a collective fault of selections, tactics, coaching & execution.

I’m always amused by the Sham poo / Snotskiet diatribes although I only glance at them. It’s quite sad that someone who is clearly passionate and vaguely knowledgable about rugby cannot keep foul language and racial slurs out of his arguments (if you can call his rants that). But I suppose it’s typical of SA and typifies the “moer hulle” mentality of many SA rugby fans.
Schalk was one of snottie’s targets so its very pleasing to see him (Scahalk that is) honoured with the award and shows up how little Snottie knows about rugby. Although of course all the judges etc could be wrong and Snottie right! Yeah, likely.
Lastly about Hooks22 list. Quite a few on that list are caused by poor player management and coaching that is the clear and direct responsibility of PDivvy and brain dead Dicky.
He, he Jake White would easily have won back to back RWC’s with this group of players!
