The Melbourne Rebels and Crusaders have signed up to play pre-season games in Singapore.
Rebels CEO Steve Boland confirmed that the two Super Rugby franchises will make the trip to Singapore in the near future. Chances of it happening next year are still ’50-50′ but the tour will definitely happen in 2013 and 2014.
‘We have signed a contract with a Singapore promoter to play Super Rugby trial matches with the Crusaders,’ said Boland.
‘There is a great expatriate market in Singapore, which has 6500 registered players. If we have a connection with Singapore and the Rebels become the Super Rugby team of choice, that will be fantastic.’
The Brumbies and Waratahs are other Super Rugby franchises that are also considering playing their pre-season matches in Asia.
