Brüssow boost for Cheetahs

Heinrich Brüssow has recovered from a rib injury and will start training with the Cheetahs next week.

The Springbok flanker injured his rib in the World Cup quarter-final against Australia, and was unable to complete that game. The good news is that Brüssow has made rapid progress in his recovery and will join his Cheetahs team-mates as they prepare for the 2012 Super Rugby tournament.

According to the Cheetahs medical staff, he won’t take part in all the training exercises, but will participate in the fitness drills.

Die Volksblad reports that other injured players like lock Francois Uys (rib), flyhalf Sias Ebersohn (ankle) and centre Philip Snyman (groin) will all be ready for training next Monday. Bok flanker Juan Smith is also expected to be fit by the time the Super Rugby competition kicks off in February.

    Good to hear.

Better fetcher then Pocock (and does so legally most of the time, :lol ), but if the Cheetahs can help him with finding a more defined role on offense, it will definitely benefit the Boks.

Cheetahs will again surprise a few of the big teams!

Great news for Cheetahs. A back row of Brussouw, Juan and Ashley Johnson will be interesting to see.

@stormersboy(stormersboy)-6: Last line of the article. February.

Ja it doesnt make sense. Why not first rest for a month after Currie Cup and then start pre-season in December.

I honestly think that brussouw and burger are key at 6 & 7 for the boks with either duane vermeulen, joshua strauss or willem alberts at 8… this leaves juan smith but i think the boks have a need for a nunber 4 lock and smith has valuable test experience and would be a good leader in the bok group…

If I was to pick a bok squad for next years ‘rugby championship’ i would have this one:

    15 Patrick Lambie
    14 Gio Aplon
    13 Jaque Fourie
    12 Francois Steyn
    11 Jean De Villiers
    10 Elton Jantjes
    9 Francois Hougaard
    8 Duane Vermeulen
    7 Schalk Burger
    6 Heinrich Brussouw
    5 Andries Bekker (capt)
    4 Juan Smith
    3 Jannie Du Plessis
    2 Bismark Du Plessis
    1 Tendai Mtawarira

    16 Chillyboy Ralepelle
    17 CJ Van Der Linde
    18 Jean Deysel
    19 Willem Alberts
    20 Jano Vermaak
    21 Juan De Jongh
    22 JP Pietersen

    23 Bandie Maku
    24 Coenie Oosthuzyen
    25 Ross Skeate
    26 Joshua Strauss
    27 Sarel Pretorius
28 Sias Ebersohn / Johaan Goosen / Peter Grant
    29 Robert Ebersohn
    30 Bryan Habana

Did Brussie really regained that form of 2008/2009?
He injury was a bad one and he was not the same in 2011 and old Pocock had his way before Brussow left the field. Just asking.

Brussow’s body isn’t made of same granite as Schalla’s. He’s made of same stuff as JdV, Bekker, and Dan Carter: strong bones, weak joints. Our loosie group should be interchangeable and include Burger, Alberts,
Smith, Louw, Kilosi, and Watson. All can play 6-8, except Alberts (who can play 4-5).

We musn’t carry injured or fragile players any more. All 30 must be 100%; all must be superior tacklers; and we must play so rough they have to change the law. A clean ruck means Pocock on a stretcher. Elstadt @ lock!

    @Rhys7(Rhys7)-9:

We have better wings in SA than JdV surely!

Last time I saw JdV play wing he was caught totally out of position on defence on several occasions.

@pokkel(pokkel)-13: We have better 12′s and wings in SA than JDV, the way he’s played the last two seasons he does not deserve to be picked for the Boks.

@Rhys7(Rhys7)-9: If Lambie keeps playing 15 he will not be a Bok for long or maybe he’ll be a utility player on the bench. Jaco Taute will make that position his in the next season or two. But don’t get me wrong I do think Lambie is a very very good player, a world class player but Taute just has the magic and I think it will show with one more S15 season.

    @Rhys7(Rhys7)-9: Support Province much?
Bekker as captain; making room for JDV on the wing; Alberts on the bench for Vermeulen? I admire your resolve in leaving Peter Grant out.

But I do like the Juan (or even Schalk/Alberts) as 4 lock….

    @Rhys7(Rhys7)-9:

Were does all this interest for Bekker to
Be bok captain come from?? I’m just curious to know, must have missed something?

Would not have him as capain ahead of guys like Juan Smith, Burger, JDV etc..

Maybe in a couple of years if he continues to improve.

Does he have a background captaining?

  • 17.Guns: Reply to this comment

Not that I would have JDV as captain either.. Not on current form.

Lookin forward to seeing Sarel P playing for the Tahs – think this will give him a good opportunity to push for a Springbok place or possibly a place in the Wallabies ???
