Lions pivot training with Stormers

Burton Francis ran with the Stormers when the Cape franchise began their pre-season training schedule on Monday.

Francis, who recently parted ways with the Lions, was in Cape Town on Monday running through drills with the Stormers. Officially, the Stormers have contracted only three new players in Joe Pietersen (Bayonne), Deon Carstens (Saracens) and Gerhard van den Heever (Bulls), but Francis could potentially provide further cover for the Stormers in the problematic flyhalf position.

The Boland trio of Bolla Conradie, Elgar Watts and Clemen Lewis also trained with the team on Monday. Having a player of Conradie’s experience in the greater training group will be a boon for the Stormers, and no doubt Watts’s performance in Boland’s title-clinching First Division campaign may have given head coach Allister Coetzee food for thought.

The Stormers recently lost promising flyhalf Lionel Cronje to the Bulls, and aside from Peter Grant, are lacking in experienced No 10s. Kurt Coleman has been exposed to Super Rugby while Demetri Catrakilis and Gary van Aswegen have played Currie Cup rugby, but none of the three, nor Watts for that matter, are established at Super Rugby level.

And Mallett said he was taking a break from coaching until June 2012.

Oh wait, when do the poms tour in this neck of the woods?

Old Nick might just be indulging in a bit of poker-play. The guessing games will continue.

just check how these two faced commie cowardly comrades in arms creep around like the second grade cowardly creeps they are….

Now they wanna defame and denigrate the very two icons that led these same bewildered snot nosed half bred morons out the morass of their deficient heritage and who stink to high heaven in their cowardly hypocrisy while they brown nose their way around the exiled colonialist corridors of the founding fathers of Philadelphia…

If were not for Mandela and Tutu these same half bred warriors of deceit would still be moseying around the back streets of Ravensmead or Bishops Lavis looking for a way to get out the ghetto .. but these pseudy warlords for ‘truth’ are scurrying around like the decrepit lily livered cowardly arsecreep scum they are seeking to defame and discredit the VERY two people who saved their half bred coconut coolyarse creeping backsides from a life of insignificance and nonentity..

better be careful now this could be construed as inner circle ‘state secrets’ getting defamatory and derogatorily exposed out here on a public forum rugby blog… which put in incorrect context could expose one for libelous intent and anti party blasphemy… who in their right mind would dare to brand the arch icon of this hard fought democracy as a traitor?… and you yourself could even find yourself being the proud resident of a two by four meter lock up facility for no other crime or reason but for stating some innocuous so called ‘truths’ in the vain aim of offering a warped self righteous opinion…

@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-748: I hinted at this distinct possibility about a week or more ago.. Also suspected it was Mallet they been secretly holding out for.. and could have been negotiated some time back already before he kicked the England job opportunity for six

I’m not totally convinced that Mallet is as astute and on the money strategy wise as many seem to believe he is.. I reckon he got some distinct blind spots of his own brought about largely by quite a sizable self worth opinion or ego of himself..

nevertheless he may have matured substantially from the dude who let his rugby infatuated passion get the better of some pragmatic down to earth reason when he lost the 99 semi down to very similar circumstances to how we exited this last WC knockout game against self same opposition the Wallabies… where we let compromise rule our better judgement and the coach played the wrong personnel in a do or die death knell game…

Mallet is not as superlative efficient in terms of accurate decision making as some seem to think.. Solomons was a big part of his success when Boks were unbeatable for the 17-0 sequence .. as well as it was Carel Dup who unheralded wrote the blue print and laid the foundations for that script

  • 767.ashampoopaloo: Reply to this comment

Having said that Mallet is probably by far our most distinguished and professional coach yet and a far more open minded prospect to take the team forward in contrast to down in the dreary self styled mud delinquents like Fakey Snaky Shaky Jakey Achy White

But Mallett is his own man. Much has been said about the Teichman episode and Mallett has been humble enough and big enough to admit his mistake. But any new coach should be able to select his assistants. I was among those who said “Solly who?” at the time. The duty of the head coach is to get the best out the players and Mallett is the type of person who commands respect. This, to me, right now is the type of person that the Boks need. After all, he’s been there before and now knows even more what the job entails. And he won’t go on about “judge me on the World Cup” type of craptalk. He’ll want results immediately. He doesn’t suffer fools easily.

@IAAS(I am a stormer)-752: yeah, Mallett went public on wanting the England job, he may just waiting for the RFU to re-organise themselves so he doesn’t have to report to Rob Andrew. Who knows, but he is certainly wanted at Twickenham by the blazers.

    @Big Hit(Big Hit)-771:

And he has also settled back in Cape Town. As I said earlier, great poker-player is old Nick. The RFU are under more pressure as they will have to start getting ready for the 6 Nations pretty soon. Lets just wait and see.

  • 773.ashampoopaloo: Reply to this comment

Mallet had both White and PdV on his team during his tenure and he ‘fired’ them both.. or rather Solomons fired White as a glorified walking stats encyclopedia and PdV walked away of his own volition disillusioned by the close knit broeder setup which largely excluded him from any say worth mentioning
