NZRU delay Guilford verdict

NZRU delay Guilford verdict

A decision on how Zac Guilford will be dealt with after a drunken episode in the Cook Islands will be forthcoming next week.

The All Blacks and Crusaders wing potentially faces a contract termination after he wandered naked, drunk and bleeding into a family restaurant in Rarotonga and allegedly assaulted two patrons.

NZRU general manager for professional rugby, Neil Sorensen, met Guildford in Hawke’s Bay on Tuesday to begin misconduct proceedings. He told the Dominion Post: ‘We have to determine whether misconduct has been upheld … We are looking to get together half way through next week to get some resolution for everybody,” Sorensen said. “The key decisions that need to be made are around sanctions and support, so it’s the two S’s … We want to clear this up as soon as possible,

‘It’s important to give some certainty for him and everyone else, including other players, about how we stand on this issue in how we are dealing with Zac. We adjourned at the end of the day to seek some more information, which I’m asking for. I can’t reveal that because it’s been made private as part of the disciplinary hearing.’

Sorensen reinforced their commitment to supporting Guildford, but could not say with certainty what form it would take.

‘That hasn’t changed, but it will depend on the further information we get. We will definitely support him, but the end result of the hearing will be whether we support him as an NZRU employee or not. You can’t pre-empt it. We think he needs tonnes of support, but it’s about how we do that.’

Its a shame but if found guilty, he needs to be made an example of im sorry to say.
We dont want rugby to turn out like league in OZ.

I agree, ban him he had his chance and he fucked it up, what a c ock walking into a bar naked and assaulting two people. Rugby will be far better off without people like him.

Have to agree with you, turns up at the airport in AKL on his return in his jandels and tells the waiting journo’s he will have to give up alcohol for a “while” lets not forget he also abused a woman who was running, ban him and the next clown might think twice before doing it.

the guys young, 22, lost his dad a couple years ago. how long does it take to get over losing your parent?
hopefully guildford gets given a chance to grow up , grieve and be a better person.
withdrawing his nzrfu contract would be enough but no bans or stand down period. give him a chance to prove himself and a goal for him to make it back into the AB’s

if we’re lucky he might grow up and be perfect like all you guys lambasting him here.

Cr@p. If you use that logic there must be hundreds of millions louts walking naked into bars and assaulting patrons because they lost a parent/parents at an early age. This is a feeble excuse – he should rather honor his father and behave like a decent human being. From reports and comments on the web from people who knew him since school days it seems that he has always been a lout/drunk and even beats his mother. He is a prime example of NZ striving to be an egalitarian society – not just no class but low class.

Well he isnt honouring his dad.He spent time with the NZRU pshych after the incident aswell, did not help it seems.
So you say he should not carry the consequences?
    A drunk man’s acts are a sober man’s thoughts.
So it was ok to sexually harras a woman?
    F uck you man.

@Fern is not a stud,he is merely no19(Fern)-11: your perfect and never made a mistake? typical hypocritical @hole. wheres your compassion? he’s made mistakes . yes he should lose his NZRFU contract, but this typical mob mentality of yours is embarrassingly looking for a lynching.
he apologised to the the guys he assaulted (and they forgave him and told him not to stop playing) and the the sexual harrassment you speak of was verbal and Zac apologised to her as well. he didnt rape or kill anyone lets not go overboard.
lets nuture our young and stupid. experience makes you wise. at least give him a chance to to gain some experience instead of throwing him to the wolves just to satisfy your bloodlust so u can put up a scapegoat to satisfy your warped sense of justice.

@petoors(petoors)-10: mob mentality. yes compassion is a feeble excuse.
nice generalisation about kiwi’s kiwi’s. shows your pettiness, and whats this BS about him beating his mother? wtf?
this isnt about kiwi’s. i’d feel the same way if it were a saffa rugby player with a lot of potential.
zac like all kids make mistakes, are we going to give him a chance? nah you’d rather cast him aside just to have a shining example of how the moralistic mob rule. god save me from the righteous.
its the dark years when your at your lowest that you learn the most valuable lessons about yourself. lets give him a chance and support and see what he can accomplish. it could be something great

    the epitome of hypocrisy…

mentioning Guilfords alleged harassment of a female when your own track record regarding the fairer *** is every bit as disgusting?

Last time a SA’n rugby player hit the piss and made an *** of himself, a policeman was found beaten to death on the side of the road. Diddy publicly supported the cop killer but condemned his actions much like NZRU have done with Zac. The kid (Zac) is an idiot and deserves to suffer the full gambit of appropriate consequences, but the fact some people are using the Zac incident to promote their own anti NZ agendas whilst selectively ignoring the fetid carcass of a murdered policeman is beyond comprehension.

Yup! He plead guilty to the charge of “culpable homicide” (the unlawful negligent killing of a human being), was sentenced to 5 years jail(suspended) and fined ZAR$750,000. He’s a convicted cop killer but due to the vagaries of SA’n justice, he gets off with barely a slap on the wrist…..for murdering a policeman!

Was not aware of that…………..don’t knock the SA system when the NZ one is no better…………. a recent case in Akld where a person was given bail for kidnapping and holding a person at knife point, against police advice, was bailed to an address 1 km from the victim, goes on to murder her a few weeks later.

    Screwed up mate, big time
