Sanzar wants two Buenos Aires Tests
23 Nov 2011
Sanzar are pushing for two of Argentina’s three home Tests in the 2012 Rugby Championship to be staged in Buenos Aires.
Sanzar CEO Greg Peters made the recommendation on Tuesday, and said it was based on the logistical concerns facing the visiting teams. Peters wants two Tests played in the capital and one outside, while UAR president Luis Castillo said that he would also like to see Tests played outside of Buenos Aires.
The Pumas will play their first match against South Africa in Cape Town on 18 August, before returning to Argentina to host the Springboks the following week.

Playing outside of the Argentine capital is only fair.
Argentina should be treated as an equal partner, if not in the money room, at least in the playing stakes.
Expecting the Puma’s to host games soley in Buenos Aires is like suggesting Dunedin should be excluded for AB home matches.

@Brads(Brads)-1: Apart from the obvious soccer stadiums do they have a stadium that can cater for an international ?? There must be a std at least on the pitch

stew – I would think they have enuff stadiums. May have to use their huge footbals stadiums for the games. I have a feeling they will be full as well!!

@race of tan(race of tan)-3: Can always remember the Bok game where JDV got yellow carded for nearly throwing an Argie in the concrete moat around the pitch , this situation must be fixed becuase it is an accident waiting to happen.

Another example of the bitterness from Australia. Having been more or less forced to accept the Argentinian inclusion, now they are trying to impose conditions regarding Argentina’s HOME matches. Tell them to get lost.

stew – I can’t wait to watch the Pumas strutt their stuff in the Rugby Championship(Daft name). I foresee them growing very strong, they are certianly way better than Italy!!
I reckon they will make an immediate impact, most pundits reckon it will take a few years, i disagree!! They may not play so well on their away leg but will be very storng at home!!

@race of tan(race of tan)-6:
Rugby Championship is a great name, far better than Super XX.
Also, it is an unabashed statement that the IRB ranking system is baseline fact.
Outside of the contrived positional changes due to double points being awarded and lost once every four years during Rugby’s lucky dip knock out comp, the SANZAR partners have been consistently in the top 3 on the totem pole.
Argentina might struggle, but that is only relative.

They’re your home games, Argentina. You choose where you wish to play them, just as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa choose where their home fixtures are played.
I cannot believe the arrogance of Peters and Sanzar and would support 100% Argentina telling both to get screwed.

I once went to the Spingboks vs Pumas in Buenas Aires and because of all the holiganism in footbal, the pitch the game was played on was obviously a soccer stadium combination. A few yrs back one might remember Jean DeVillers nudging a player on the side line then he noticed the 3m drop the player was heading for and scrambled to save him. Well the argintines new about this drop and attcked poor Jean probably assuming he knew.
Point is so close to the pitch, to stage regular matches there they would have to fix the 3m deep trench by 2m wide (which stops the hooligans storming the pitch), as it is too dangerous to have near near the pitch. A real health and saftey issue.
But otherwise as for South Americans go ,not only is it the best place in South America and one of the best places in the world(in my top 5 countries), they are great people and the best of them from South America. Ah, if you love steak, no other country understands steak like Argentinians. Not even the beautiful steak lovers of South Africa. Imagine going to a buffet resturant and you walk in and in a pit 3m sq ,4 carcasses at once are being cooked under logs. unbeliveable stuff.
Did you know Allo Allo tv series in English, the helper is Spanish and from Barcelona.
In Spain the series has him from Argentina.
Have your say
