Blitzboks down Aussies to top group

The Springbok Sevens recorded an unbeaten run to top Pool B on day one at the Gold Coast Sevens.

Following wins over America and Japan, the Blitzboks sealed a successful opening day at the Australian leg of the 2011-12 World Series with a 21-7 triumph over the hosts. Tries from Mark Richards, Robert Ebersohn and Stephen Hunt proved enough for victory.

Australia held South Africa to a 7-7 scoreline at the break, but Ebersohn and Hunt capitalised on a impressive showing in the second half for the crucial win. The Springbok Sevens will now face France in the Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Chris Dry scored a hat-trick in the Blitzboks’ 31-7 victory over Japan.

It was a rusty performance in the first stanza by Paul Treu’s charges, as they were held to a 7-7 deadlock at half-time. Japan speedster Lote Tuqiri scored the opening try before Chris Dry leveled matters.

South Africa then scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to seal what was an easy win in the end. Dry grabbed two tries to complete his hat-trick while Bernado Botha and Paul Delport also dotted down.

In the Blitzboks’ first game, they stuttered to a 17-12 victory over the USA.

The Americans capitalised on poor opening play in the first half by South Africa, which saw a brace from speedster Zach Test secure a seven-point advantage for the former. Blitzboks’ wing Richards dotted down to keep his team within reach at the break.

The Springbok Sevens were far more convincing in the second stanza as Boom Prinsloo and Chase Minnaar crossed the chalk to secure a tight win.

Currently waiting for taxi to airport from Melbourne to the GC for this… by all accounts it’s going to be a mental atmosphere there judging from reports of the already week long rugby festival in this inaugural event…

Australia vs Boks opener going to be a cracker!

Now I know the Rugby is slow this time of year so try this:

I know many of you dim witted Okes have trouble comprehending the Euro-mess.

    I certainly do………………………………………….and I ain’t even an oke.
    .
    .
    .
    ..

    The Eurozone Fix

It is a slow day in a little Greek village.

The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the village, stops at the local hotel and lays a €100 note on the desk, telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.

The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the €100 note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the €100 note and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pigfarmer.

The pig farmer takes the €100 note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.

The guy at the Farmers’ Co-op takes the €100 note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the taverna.

The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him “services” on credit.

The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the €100 note.

The hotel proprietor then places the €100 note back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the €100 note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.

    No one produced anything.

    No one earned anything.

However, the whole village is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how the bailout package works.

@cane(cane)-10: Actually that’s a poor explanation. In this example the money is just zero’ed out.

Each one cancels the other out in a circular manner.

    No extra money is created.

Not sure about the name ‘blitzboks’being used to describe the Saffer 7,s side.
With the word ‘springbok’or even ‘bok’conjuring up images of Saffer lands shameful past and the word ‘blitz’having similar connotations, surely it is appropriate to come up with a more suitable title.
I have an example that maybe the Saffer people could embrace. The Prancing Proteas.
The Prancing Proteas as a title, would help improve Saffer lands tarnished image around the world,it is less aggressive and may help change opinions of your country.
In conclusion Saffers,Think before you title your teams.

When I come to power such nonsense will be banned.

And I shall pass a law that says all corrupt government memebers will have to go to work in their onnerbroek.

They will also have to deliver pizzas to the masses on little mopeds until they have repaid their debt to society.
