Lions tour unveiled
28 Nov 2011
The British & Irish Lions will undertake a nine-match tour of Australia in 2013.
Tests are scheduled for Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, while there’ll be five mid-week matches against franchises and one against a combined NSW-Queensland Country.
‘The Lions tour here in 2001 was an extraordinary event and one which provided significant economic benefit to those cities which hosted major matches,’ ARU Managing Director John O’Neill said.
‘More than 8000 Lions supporters came to Australia from the UK and Ireland on official tour packages and many more thousands made their own way here.
‘Four years ago in South Africa there were said to be 40 000 Lions fans that made the trek there to support their team. A Lions Tour is a massive occasion. Behind the rugby World Cup it is the most engaging, high-profile and popular event our game can showcase.’

The Pomie players are in it for the money only, very sad the English jersey means very little these days especially with all your poached imports.

That is a tough Itinerary Biggles.
Only one gimme.
50/50 I’d say.
Anyway………………………………… Lions can only improve on Sir Clive’s pathetic effort last time.

Australia enjoy this.
Lions supporters were marvelous here in Durban and probably all over the country. Still have great memories of the last Lions tour here in SA.
Tours the way to go.

Lions tours are the best…
You have to miss the touring aspect of the game… I enjoyed the boks tour in 2009 when they played Leicester and Saracens.. midweek games are classics!
Clive woodward coached the weekend team of the Lions in 2005 disaster tour in New Zealand but Ian McGeechan coached the team in 1997, the midweek teams of New Zealand 2005 and the 2009 Lions tour
Graham Henry who was then Wales coach, was in charge of 2001
My bet is on Warren Gatland coaching the team in 2013 or Andy Robinson… he was understudy to Henry in 2001…
Have your say
