Blitzboks draw Aussies for PE
4 Dec 2011
The Springbok Sevens will face Australia, Canada and Kenya in Pool C at the PE Sevens next weekend.
PE will make its Sevens World Series debut as hosts this Friday. Coming off their worst finish in seven tournaments, Paul Treu and his players will want a stronger showing at home – and their toughest opponents on day one will be Australia.
South Africa have already faced the Aussies three times this season, having beaten them twice in a group game and the 3rd/4th-place play-off at the Gold Coast Sevens last week before losing 17-14 because of a last-minute try in the Plate final at the Dubai Sevens on Saturday.
France, who beat the Blitzboks 19-5 in the Cup quarter-final in Dubai, and defending World Series champions New Zealand will be the hosts’ likely opponents in their first knock-out match on day two.
A successful run in PE will be crucial to the Springbok Sevens’ World Series title hopes. South Africa are currently tied for third on the overall table on 29 log points, with New Zealand and France. Fiji top the standings with 39 points while England trail in second with 32 after their latest Cup triumph over the weekend.
PE Sevens Pools:
Pool A – England, Argentina, USA, Samoa
Pool B – France, NZ, Scotland, Morocco
Pool C – South Africa, Australia, Canada, Kenya
Pool D – Fiji, Wales, Portugal, Zimbabwe

If the Boks defend like they did against Oz in the final they’re gonna be in for more gnashing of teeth and crying…and that’s just their coach.

Should be non negotiable for any of the big 6 that they don’t make it out of their pools… the competition only starts at the 1/4′s and it’s the balance of Orks that brings some consistency from the semi’s and on…
Have your say
