Matfield joins Bulls as consultant
5 Dec 2011
The Bulls have signed former Springbok lock Victor Matfield as a lineout consultant for the 2012 Super Rugby season.
The Bulls have confirmed that Matfield will work alongside the coaching staff, focusing on lineouts and general forward play.
‘Victor has been the backbone of the Bulls for many seasons and to have his continued presence in the team, although unfortunately not as a player anymore, is a real bonus for us,’ said Bulls director of rugby Heyneke Meyer.
‘He is generally rated as the finest lineout analyst in the game and we are proud and honoured to have him around.’
Matfield will also work as an analyst for Supersport next year.
‘I am very keen to get stuck in [on television] and will give it a full go, but it is no secret that I want to become involved in coaching too. This will afford me the opportunity to do both, something that I am very pleased about,’ Matfield said.

@vasteses(vasteses)-100:

@Hurricane(Hurricane)-94:
of course it is.
and if ritchie says he was gouged then he was gouged.
I think we should do away with the citing process altogether and just ask old Ritchie what he thinks afterwards.
or anytime within a six month window.
so if he needs to liven up talk that he is being paid for he can just pop it in.

@Hurricane(Hurricane)-99:
look i am not saying he made us lose we did al that on our own, and that started 4 years ago for various reasons. we had ample opportunity to win the QF. however he was one of the worst refs in WC i was dumb struck by his appointment.

@vasteses(vasteses)-100: I was responding to Katman about the supersport gig that Vic got.
@vasteses(vasteses)-100: Yes it is the former right.

And it is not that far-fetched that De Villiers will be given an interim position to prepare for England tour either as care-taker coach.

@Gunther(gunther)-103:
Its not what Richie has said. In fact it was bought up weeks ago and not by Ritchie.
And it does not help that the French said they will do illegal and bad tactics
to win.
Even been seen on replays.
But go on, think that its all Richie here. Not one bad word from you about the Rougie eye gouging at all.

Victor better make sure he’s got no skeletons in his armoire.
History tells us that Supersport presenters have a history of exposing themselves.

@vasteses(vasteses)-104:
no the answer is that the IRB, is clamping on foul play, looking at new ways to improve the game, siting players for using wrongly branded mouthguards, but not doing anything on substandard refereeing, and here i am not isolating bryce, i think the final was also handled poorly, the are variuos games in super rugby that was in schambles due to poor refereeing. the IRB must do some thing

@Gunther(gunther)-103: I must admit I would never have put you down for a moustache guy. I’m assuming it’s not just a Movember thing.

@Tacitus(Deucalion)-76: It’s about time that Brock got that Bok call up.
Not so sure about the Flyhalf though.
I was thinking Burton Francis, now that he’s moved down to the Cape.
6 Dec 2011, 10:19 am
@vasteses(vasteses)-104:
Well if you dont think he made you lose then i take my hat of to you.
Cos we all know he didnt help but was not the main culprit.
And i agree with you, i cant see for the life of me why Bryce was even considered to get this award.

read the article silly boy.
Ritchie was “suprised” nobody was cited.
Paddy can expect a phonecall.
I expect the Hague to get involved. “Rougie” can expect a cell next to Charles Taylor in the Idi Amin Memorial Wing.

@Gunther(gunther)-111: It’s the old chicken and egg conundrum. Were they freaks before Supersport, or did the channel make them so?

@grant10(grant10)-92:
i agree with you on spies. his form has been putrid.
i do not agree with you on morne though. there is still a place for him in the bok setup. you watch..records will fall…

Gert “WP” Smal.
Oh boy.
6 Dec 2011, 10:25 am
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-115: Who else was nominated?
6 Dec 2011, 10:26 am
@Gunther(gunther)-117:
What are you really getting at here?
Honestly, eye gouging is terrible, but here you are complaining about Richie cos he was eye gouged.
And your calling me the silly boy, lol.
The media spotted the whole thing the next day and said he should be cited.
Not one peep out of Ritchie. Now he says something and its wrong.
The Frenchie should have been cited dont you think?

@>^..^< katman(katman)-113:

6 Dec 2011, 10:31 am

6 Dec 2011, 10:32 am
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-122:
Ritchie sqeals like bacon.
deal with my boy.
6 Dec 2011, 10:34 am
@Gunther(gunther)-133:
The one sqealing here is you and your mostache.
But serious question, do you think the Frenchie should have been cited?
6 Dec 2011, 10:34 am
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-128:
bakkies has become an unfairly maligned bogeyman.
for the most part the ‘bogeyman in the cupbaord’ is just in the ‘little kiddies’ at the nzru and irb’s imiagination…s’true…
he plays hard…but he plays fair…

that’s up to the citing commissioner not ritchie.
oink.
6 Dec 2011, 10:41 am
Kiwis just seem to have turned into real pansies in the last 10 years. On the field, that is.
This choir boy image makeover campaign tends to be hampered, though, by the odd unfortunate drunken brawl in various bars and clubs. Oh, and did I mention that these drunken brawls also happen to be conducted in the nude?
If not, let me confirm. The brawler may or may not be naked, depending on his inclination at the time.
6 Dec 2011, 10:43 am
@Gunther(gunther)-138:
Thought you would cower out of that question.
But seen as you spout your opinions all over this site i thought you might have one for my question.
And yes pink is your colour…..oink
6 Dec 2011, 10:43 am
@Gunther(gunther)-117: why is richie “suprised”?
does he not understand the concept of and “elapsed citing window? lauaki clothes lined habana and the citing commissioner never filed the report on time and off was sione.
him feigning suprise is typical kiwis tryna influence the IRB again.
6 Dec 2011, 10:45 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-139:
You mean pansies beat you team consistently. Bugger that.
6 Dec 2011, 10:52 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-141:
exactly.
But try expalining that to Hermaphrodite.
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-140:
That is what this site is for.
So tha people can express their opinions.
Mine is that Reetchie is a squealer,
If you don’t like people expressing their opinions then my I suggest silver fern, a place where opinions are verbotten and little trolls like you get sent to the cyberspace naughty corner.
6 Dec 2011, 10:56 am
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-139: “Oh, and did I mention that these drunken brawls also happen to be conducted in the nude?”
Tac, surely you saw that the okes who blew snak-like horns before every RWC game were kaalpollie save for a few blades of grass. it is cultural in NZ to be in the “nude”
6 Dec 2011, 10:58 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-144: So Guildford was just practicing some Kiwi culture?
6 Dec 2011, 11:00 am
@PissAnt(PissAnt)-109:
I agree. The announcement is scheduled the week before the 6N starts, probably to allow Gert time to prepare Ireland and then announce his decision to leave after the 6N, which only in March. That late January date tipped me off, as it is too late for a current S15 coach to resign.
6 Dec 2011, 11:02 am
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-69:
Sound like a nice big government appeaser position of little to no net worth but window-dressing…
6 Dec 2011, 11:03 am
so can someone please cut n paste Gert Smals cv here for me
6 Dec 2011, 11:08 am
@WOLFMAN21(WOLFMAN21)-145: he is part-Maori isn’t he?
6 Dec 2011, 11:20 am
I see Gert helped Declan in 209 to Irelands 1 st grand slam in 61 years…….
Also Ireland use Wallce, a great opensider…..brilliant to the ball player.
Also like the fact Smal was a tough son of a beetch so may not tolerate showponies like Spies .
My concern is every now and then ireland like that ronan o gara skopskootdoerenagervolg artist…..
But I am liking some stuff I am reading….
Just hope Jake did not rub too much off on him…
