McCaw slams filthy French

All Blacks captain Richie McCaw has confirmed that France were guilty of eye-gouging during the World Cup final on 23 October.

Following the All Blacks’ win in the decider, very little was made of the alleged incident by McCaw himself. But six weeks on, McCaw spoke out at a charity breakfast in Christchurch, confirming that there was plenty of foul play.

‘The French are worse when they are scared,’ he said. ‘They were as bad as they have been and were going for the eyes.

‘My eye was a bit sore for a while and I was struggling to see for a bit. I was surprised they didn’t cite him [France centre Aurelien Rougerie].’

It was consistent with what was written by the New Zealand media on the eve of the final, and some of the French coaches went on record saying that they would resort to illegal tactics in order to unsettle the All Blacks.

It was said that the French players would target McCaw’s injured foot, but in the end they went for his eyes.

Video evidence confirmed that Rougerie was indeed guilty of eye-gouging, but only came to light after the 36-hour timeframe for citing had expired. The IRB has since said that it will look into extending the citing window.

The headline was to generate hits, McCaw is not quoted as actually saying the French are “filthy”. Of course the irony in him complaining when he is the most deliberate cheat in world rugby is ironic. He can only be thankful it is not the 80s anymore – he wouldve been rucked to ribbons.

He also forgets that the ABs were also famous for going over someone lying on the ball or on the wrong side. McCaw gets to do this all day long with little fear of physical consequence.

Some of his quotes do reveal interesting insight – ” when they are scared” – the arrogance of this quote clearly shows the arrogance and attitude of the ABs – most personified by their captain. Who was scared in that final??? I dont think it was the French – they were very brave and had nothing to lose. The ABs were scared and thats why McCaw lay on the French side of the rucks all day.

Having said all that – eye-gouging is disgusting and has no place in the game. It is well-known that it is prevalent in the French game. A French mate of mine even told us that they used to be coached on how to do it. But maybe that was just to scare us :-)

Joubert shouldve done HIS job and given McCaw a yellow long before that incident took place. If players lose faith in the refs then they might try and take the law into their own hands….

Only Bakkies and Schalk are “dirty” siteable players. I thought every one knew that?!

Ritchie plays the entire WC with a broken foot,
Gets stumped by Dusitoir (spelling) in the Final.
    Gets gouged by Rougerie.

And still smiles like a school on a chance.

    McCheat……………………………..

    Ritchie did speak it,

and so it came to pass on the IRB agenda.

and on the 3 month he sqealed again.

    oink oink.

@Gunther(gunther)-13: Richie simply has to claim that a fan in the stands called him a cheat, and the IRB will ban all fans and have them play in empty stadiums until the “threat has passed”.

Maybe Mccaw feels a bit guilty. The french press were pretty unhappy with the refereeing in the final justifiably. the french played well enough to win and could have done so if Mcaw had been penalised or yellow carded for some blatant infrigements.

@eleph(eleph)-18: Thats probably part of it! I Was very surprised to read Marc Hinton suggesting the ABs did not deserve to win the final in the latest SA Rugby (well thats how I interpreted his comments).

A similar example is the outrage when Quade clips McCaw’s chin with his knee (he was public enemy #1 in NZ) but then McCaw does a lot worse with his knee to Parra, and not a word is said by any Kiwis

  • 21.BULLET: Reply to this comment

Dirty play is dirty play, and which ever way you look, it needs to be eradicated from the game. Eye gouging, nut grabbing, punching and tip tackling must all go.

That said, so too much professional fouls, deliberate penalties etc etc.

If the ref’s are excused for missing professional fouls & deliberate penalties, surely they can be excused for missing TV eye gouging.

Furthermore, I would like to see a citation system for deliberate penalties & professional fouls. For example, if a team can prove that another team has deliberately cheated in a game (video evidence), then that player can receive a post-match yellow or red card.

This means that the team who has this transgression either starts the next text with 14 men for the first 10 minutes, or in the case of a red, they play the test with 14 men.

Then watch the Kiwi’s come into line.

But, the system would becoe as poorly managed as the current foul play system

Poor Ritchie, this article was written by another All Black *** creeper, the All Blacks are angels of course in the fixed world cup they won. Ritchie McCaw operates offside all the time and i my opinion it is fair game to do ruck him a little.
Why are the French fined for not following haka protocol, is there a protocol for any of the other island team, this world cup was a joke, IRB, always acting in the interests of NZ, what a joke their referees and officials are.
Kevin Mealamu punches a player and gets two weeks, any other player 6 weeks.
NZ are bunch of hypocrites if there ever was.

i think its rich that you bemoan howmuch of a cheat mccaw is. what BS. bakkies, Rougerie are low down petty thug foul play cheats.
sure richie cheats, but with accuracy and within the boundaries set by the ref. any smart openside interprets the refs (joubert = saffa) calls and then tries and implements his game within those boundaries. richie may stretch the boundaries but has never been accused of foul play. the knee to parra’s head was rgrettable but no way can u say it was as intentional as Rougerie’s eye gouging, or bakkies headbutt on cowan, schalks eye gouge, leRoux’s biting.
bemoan all you want what a cr4p wc it was, 4 more years, get over it and move on.

  • 31.maximus1: Reply to this comment

Oh shame poor All Blacks with their crappy club grounds for stadiums, the last time any fixed world cup will be held there, man1a you carry on about Bakkies Botha, lets not forget Tana Umaga’s spear tackle almost ending the career of Brian O’Driscoll, whtat punishment did he get, oh thats right he wasn’t? Oh lets not forget how kiwi’s like death and taxes, have crappy refs, how Bryce Lawrence gets an award for refereeing says it all about NZ, and Paddy O Brien another plonker if there ever was.
Another absolute about NZ is the rugby union is broke, South Africa will continue to subsidize you in the tri-nations.

  • 32.eleph: Reply to this comment

‘Four more years’ is a second hand gloat – belongs to George Gregan. Can be used once with sting and panache but thereafter loses something. To chant it to a losing team in a stadium is pathetic. We all enjoy winnng but u gotta have some class. And handle defeat yes.

  • 33.man1a: Reply to this comment

@maximus1(maximus1)-31: tackle on BOD was legit. comparing Bakkies transgressions to Tana is a bit lame and a long long stretch. I like Bakkies but I’m not blind to his cheating, in fact I enjoy his win at all costs attitude. AB’s are too nice and should learn to cheat more, but not misdemeanors eg hands in the ruck more like Bakkies does. dislocating peoples limbs while they’re stuck in the ruck, head butt from behind etc.
yes NZ has crappy refs. those that cant play ref. we spend our time creating great players. who the f@k wants to be a ref when u can play?!?!
yeah NZRFU made a huge loss and 4nations will definately help. thanx for that. however the players dont care. We’re about creating and growing great players not the admin. u can have a great admin and great refs. we’ll concentrate on playing rugby
    @eleph(eleph)-32: handle defeat? we won.

s’funny. four more years of being the worldChamps

stop political figures from choosing the coach, get rid of PDV, get a coach that doesnt succumb to senior player pressure, dump spies or at least get him clean out rucks and mauls so that he’s actually doing something, get a backline that can kick and pressure well and a back up plan for when kicking isnt working, change player mentality so that they all want to attack as a team, move lambie to the starting line up (15 initially but test him at 10) , teach the backs to move the ball to the wings … and then maybe just maybe you may earn the next WC.

  • 36.JohnPaul: Reply to this comment

@maximus1(maximus1)-31: Hey Maxi-pus you are about as thick as they come, SA dont subsidise NZ or Aust, NZ and Aust fill your stadiums because you live in a dream world of hoping to beat the No.1 team on the planet – oh that’s the AB’s my man. But you keep on moaning and whingeing…kinda suits you…broken record and all. SA rugby is in the pits, just look at the farce that is happening over there….PDV for coach….you lot deserve him….the AB’s and Wallabies will rule in 2012…SA will come 3rd or 4th or who cares…bye bye

  • 37.maximus1: Reply to this comment

Poor JohnPaul touched nerve there, shows you how thick you are of course we subsidize the convicts and the sheep shatters, look at tv revenue and without south africa I n the now four nations!, your crappy mud island in the pacific union will be even more broke. Oh yeah last team to beat you was the springboks enjoy your number fixed ranking it won’t last

  • 38.man1a: Reply to this comment

    @maximus1-37:
yeah the irony. southAfrica switch on their TV’s to watch the AB’s play. thanx for that the money comes in real useful
who cares about the rankings? even if AB’s werent ranked number 1 they’d still be the team to beat. even in 2009 when boks were rated #1 it was the AB’s everyone still wanted to beat. thats what happens when your the best everyone else wants to beat you.
southAfricans know this more than any country. its why they all tune in when the AB’s play.
and did i say thanx for all the money for the southAfrican TV audiences?
