Cash-strapped Lions tighten belts
18 Dec 2011
The Golden Lions Rugby Union insists it will be able to pay its players despite having ‘financial difficulties’.
GLRU deputy president Altmann Allers told the Sunday Times that the union is in ‘the process of huge restructuring’ and that ‘people have been retrenched’, but dismissed reports that player salaries would not be paid this month.
‘I wonder if the rumours will go away when the players get paid this week?’ Allers countered. ‘It is true that we are going through some financial difficulties but the players’ salaries will not be affected. I don’t know if it is a misunderstanding or if someone misinterpreted the situation, but we are going to meet our obligations in 2012 and beyond. We are in financial difficulty but that is exactly why we are cutting back.
‘There are a number of players whose contracts we didn’t renew,’ he added, careful not to go into specifics. ‘We are in negotiations to terminate [the contracts of] 13 others.’
Allers estimates the union will have 40 to 45 senior contracted players in 2012, 30 fewer than last season.

@ashampoopaloo-246: Hey, at least do the Mayans the honesty of citing them correctly re 2012 and not regurgitate the “end of the world” ****.
20 Dec 2011, 07:47 am
well that was a load a fun…
20 Dec 2011, 07:50 am
all the authorities they just stand around and boast
how they blackmailed the sergeant at arms into leaving his post
I never cited the Mayans at prophecizing anything whatsoever, in their far more accurately constructed calendar than our Romanticized one, 2012 represents the end of a cycle, that’s about all I know about the Mayans take on 2012… What I did say was the banking infrastructure and current capitalist money revolving system seems is busy crashing under the weight of speculative money grabbing profiteering while super duper powers that be rattle sabers in death defying dereliction orders of destabilizing dynasties. So whatever else is new in the man made zoo neither Nostradamus nor Edgar Cayce junior got anything else to add to the equivalent equilibrium of how much prophecizing equates to how many roads a man must walk down before he can read the signs.

I often get asked about politics and backroom dealings in rugby and how it works.
If you want to get the clearest picture yet of the **** that goes on in rugby administration (not only in SA but the world IRB) then read this article.

‘knowledge’ is not about how much useless information you can cram into your crestatiously cocooned cockamammie conditioned cranial complexity, neither is it about premises of pretense about patently pretending to own any patents out on ‘original thought’
‘knowledge’ is a complete other kettle of fish to all of that

@ashampoopaloo-303:
ok, so regarding the mayan thing, you’re saying the world wont end in 2012, right?
thats good as i did not expect it too but i do expect it to possibly end at some point eventually, which is not an unusual thing. agreed, more or less on the capitalism thing… this make-believe cant go on for ever, there will be a correction.
also, its in our nature to fight one another for control and dominance and you should consider that it may even perhaps be dettrimental to human society as a whole if we did not.
in regards to the end of the world thing, there as been may instances of catastrophic events affecting humans for as long as there has been humans so i feel strongly that for humans to trully outsmart this whole ridiculously dangerous cycle we need to in fact build the capacity, using scienc and technology, to just ffucking destroy nature as we know to its very deepest infinitely singularity defined core.
think it about it, this is not a far out and outrageous idea.
we as humans are building a massive database of knowledge about the universe and how it works as well as both the technological weaponry to destroy things on very big scales and the technological capacity to grow and create things on equally increasingly large scales.
so basically what we do is once we have built up a capacity to recreate the universe as we wish, we build a gigantic protective structure to house the human race and then use our mega-large universal destroying weapons to just blow this whole ffucking universe thing up… just ffucking zap it to smithereens…bam! bam! bam!
then when the dust settles we exit our protective structure and use our scietific mastery to recreate aspects of the past universe in ways that will pose no danger to us for ever. we will trully have become masters over nature and will need to fear it no more.
in this sort of scenario its not far off to even speculate that humans could then become immortal gods with the right medical science and techno augmentations and we could exist in security happily relying on ourselves alone and would not need any ‘god’ concept to protect us.
this should be our purpose as a race in my opinion.

@au revoir mon tout noirs, au revoir…-307:
You mean I can stop construction on my ark?
20 Dec 2011, 08:31 am
@PissAnt-304: crazy back-stabbing and back-slapping going on there. i wonder what hoskins promised lapasset to guarantee the chairman’s vote!
20 Dec 2011, 08:35 am
@PissAnt-304:
hehehe loving it…
its always lekker when the ja-broers gooi a strop and strip their moer with each other
20 Dec 2011, 08:37 am
@PissAnt-304: Sounds like the board of most large organisations. Backstabbing, empty promises, hidden agendas and political manoeuvring. I’m chuffed with the result though
20 Dec 2011, 08:38 am
@PissAnt-308:
no, no by all means dont
this mega-ark structure idea will take a long time and no doubt still be under construction by the time of our deaths, but i do think it can happen.
20 Dec 2011, 08:40 am
@PissAnt-308: Jeez i need t get my ar&e into gear, I havent started on mine yet.
20 Dec 2011, 08:45 am
@Transformation-309: @au revoir mon tout noirs, au revoir…-310: @Yetirat-311:
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why the game of rugby will never become a global professional sport in the true sense!

You get DIY kits in builders warehouse.
20 Dec 2011, 08:48 am
Ahh.
Its christmas and fuckadilly is getting tense.
Last yeat he burnt the nut roast and his fair trade hemp stockings bio-degraded before Santa had a chance to fill them with David Icke dvds.
No pressure then.
20 Dec 2011, 08:52 am
@PissAnt-314: FIFA have the same problems though and football has made it successfully on the international stage.
20 Dec 2011, 08:56 am
@PissAnt-308: LOL! A flood is hardly a world-ending disaster. If something should happen next year, it will be much more horrific from below. In other words, unless your ark can float on lava… you’re wasting your time.
Scientific facts: Starting small – we’re decades overdue for a serious pandemic. On the other side, our world is LONG overdue for a super-vulcano eruption… which would kill half the world instantly and the other half will starve to death due to no sunlight. That’s okay. We’ll survive on rugby.
Hmmm… then there is the other possibility where they’ve discovered that our world’s magnetic field is weakening… slowly, but surely. It means the rotation of the core flow is changing, which could leave us without that magnetic field for a few weeks. Considering the fact that the magnetic field is responsible for deflecting most of the radiation (our atmosphere only filters the remaining bit), we could burn in front of our TVs during Super15!! Nice!
Nope. An ark would be no more than a hobby this time around.
20 Dec 2011, 09:02 am
@PissAnt-314: if you think the IOC, FIFA, IAAF, ICC & many other sporting organisations don’t go through the same thing then u need to dig deeper. this is not even remotely unique to rugby!
there’s no escaping this sort of skullduggery, it’s pervasisive and rugby in as much as some here think is a sanctified sport, well sorry boys, it isn’t.
20 Dec 2011, 09:02 am
It’s okay. We still have the the ‘Drukinsburgs of Kwa-Zulu Netaul’ … ya know: the new roof of the world!!
20 Dec 2011, 09:02 am
A whole evening filled with paranoid New Age spiritualism and conspiracy theories.
Fun.
20 Dec 2011, 09:05 am
@Transformation-318: LOL! Agreed! If rugby fails to become the most popular sport in the world, it would be because there are too many strict structures to keep the sport organized. It should be more like FIFA: complete chaos!!
20 Dec 2011, 09:05 am
@PissAnt-314: lolololol thanks Doll, you get so much useful information of a rugby site
20 Dec 2011, 09:06 am

Someone will be nerve-stapled and micro-chipped.

Our world needs a pandemic, or a large war.
Humans are parasites.

@Bouts-317:
That’s it, I am moving to Durban!
@Yetirat-316: @Transformation-318:
There are power struggles in every organisation, as-well as the organisations you mentioned. Difference between rugby and the other sports, is rugby has only recently gone pro, and it is controlled by what? 8 member countries? What fascinates me is that the home unions are VERY nervous now that Japan and the USA are on the decision making body – these two nations may well, in time, become the powerhouses of the game financially.
20 Dec 2011, 09:09 am
@au revoir mon tout noirs, au revoir…-307:
Do you still have bottled water and Koo baked bean tins left from 2000?
20 Dec 2011, 09:12 am
@PissAnt-326: Come on PissAnt. All those bodies are controlled by the English. Doesn’t matter how much you disagree.
Rugby, Cricket, Soccer etc etc. All sports created and controlled by the English. All sports the English suck at.
20 Dec 2011, 09:14 am
@Bouts-328:
No, no – all sports created and controlled by the Global Elite!
20 Dec 2011, 09:16 am
@WP Till I Die-325: That remark is not going to go down well with the general public here
But is do agree,
Anyway have decided stuff the ark, hot air balloon with tins of backed beans is the way to go now that a papermache ark will catch fire in the lava flow.
20 Dec 2011, 09:18 am
@PissAnt-326: They see their own strength and power on the board becoming diluted. That’s why they’re getting so jumpy. They’ve had it away for all these years and now things are finally becoming a bit more balanced.
20 Dec 2011, 09:19 am
@WP Till I Die-327:

Cricket is controlled by India now, soccer by Europe, and now rugby is also moving away!

I shudder to think how many rounds of ammunition and tins of food are still hidden in underground caches where the guys who placed them there simply forgot where they are!

@Treehugger-330:
It’s true, though.
There are simply too many human beings on this planet.
20 Dec 2011, 09:22 am
@Transformation-318:
Rugby is a elitist sport. Transform your thinking and get with the times.
20 Dec 2011, 09:27 am
@Bouts-321: “strict structures”? haha there’s that deluded sanctimony i’m talking about.
the “chaos” you call fifa started staging world cups & running big budgets eons before the likes of the All Blacks were threatening “boycott” the next world cup in england because they’re broke.
so much for a sport that wants to be the best in the world when its biggest brand & most successful team is cash-strapped lol
20 Dec 2011, 09:29 am
@WP Till I Die-327:
lets just say i’ve smartened up on how to go about preparing for armageddon

I read (Twitter) that De Wet Barry’s little one passed away. Only 2 years old.
Sad…..
20 Dec 2011, 09:33 am
@PissAnt-304:
hey PA…
my concern about this election is… what has hoskins promised and/or given away to the australians for their support to have him elected to the v-chair…?
aus always does what’s best for aus… and sa always end up sucking the hindmost…
so i fear this will come back and bite us as the concessions/promises made to australia are revealed…
we know for damn sure that australia… (who appear to be the puppet masters at this time…) did not vote for (or ask the frog to vote for) hoskins or sa because they like us…
we all know oniel detests south africa… so IMO… this is not the good news it should be… expect hoskins to back and support every aussie proposal… and wait for some genuinely good news to emerge to australia’s benefit…
20 Dec 2011, 09:33 am
@Bouts-328: if you think the English control football then u’re delusional
they don’t even control UEFA let alone FIFA hahaha
what do you base ur assertion on?
@Mr Black-336: conformity breeds mediocrity!
20 Dec 2011, 09:38 am
@Upho-340: that’s the same thing i asked in #309 who is the pied piper that is playing the tune for Regan?
20 Dec 2011, 09:41 am
just had a look on wikipedia…
there is not a single pom on the FIFA Executive…!!
so the the comment that they have any say in FIFI let alone control things… is off the mark…
only guy from the british isles is from northern ireland…
20 Dec 2011, 09:41 am
@HHS-339:
Thats sad!
20 Dec 2011, 09:43 am
@HHS-339:
shame, my condolences.
always sad when a child dies.
20 Dec 2011, 09:45 am
@Transformation-342:
you suggested the piper was lapasset…
i’m suggesting the aussies are paying the piper…
but yeah… we’re both concerned about what cards hoskins has thrown away in the pretense of being dealt a winning hand…
20 Dec 2011, 09:46 am
No parent should bury their children.
20 Dec 2011, 09:51 am
very sad… especially at this time of year…
condolences to de wet, his wife and family…
20 Dec 2011, 09:59 am
@Upho-343: some here are bombarded with the Barclays Premier League to the point that they think the world revolves aroung English football
the Poms just lost a world cup bid to Qatar & were livid accusing FIFA of all sorts nefarious things. they don’t control sshit.
20 Dec 2011, 10:01 am
condolences to de wet.
