Care slapped with hefty fine

England scrumhalf Danny Care has been fined £3,100 and banned from driving for 16 months after pleading guilty to a drink-driving charge.

Care was stopped by police during the early hours of 1 January and subsequently arrested. He was later excluded from Stuart Lancaster’s England squad for the Six Nations.

The Southampton Magistrates’ Court heard that a breath test showed he had 77mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than twice the legal limit. The initial fine was set at £5,000 but was reduced because of Care’s guilty plea.

Care was also fined £10,000 by his club Harlequins and will also do rugby-based community service until the end of pre-season 2012/13.
