Limpopo to join Vodacom Cup

Limpopo to join Vodacom Cup

The Limpopo province will have it’s own team in the 2013 Vodacom Cup.

Limpopo is currently aligned to the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, but plans are afoot to see a separate northern province outfit instated for next year’s Vodacom Cup. The decision to form a new side is expected to be confirmed at Saru’s next meeting.

The Peter Mokaba Stadium will host the team’s home matches and form the base of operations. This stadium will stage a Super Rugby pre-season match between the Bulls and Cheetahs on 11 February this year.

Great stuff for the province of Limpopo. If only they could get solid financial backing they can buy all the surplus Lions players.

The VC is a bloody waste in its current format, it should be turned into an u25 competition and be played exclusively on a Wednesday night. The super franchises should be excluded from competing in this competition and must be used as a shopping mall for the big boys.

Get Pienaar to run with it and let’s see what happens.

There are two huge clubs in Polokwane, when they play their derby they easily get a crowd of about a thousand.Noordelikes Rugby Club(My former club),They are the current Current champions and were invited to the club championships in Stellenbosch. They have been champs for the past four years or so.

Pietersburg Rugby Club.Used to dominate the league late 90′s and early new millenium. This is former Blue Bulls President and current SARU executive member Boet Fick’s club

    Then you have

    Potties Rugby Club(Mokopane)
    Letaba Rugby Club(Tzaneen)
    Louis Trichardt Rugby Club
    Loskop(Groblersdal)
    Messina Rugby Club
    University of Limpopo Rugby Club
Limpopo Police Rugby Club(coached by former PUKKE coach Jacque Swanepoel)

Then there is 2nd tier Group

    Nylstroom
Warmbad(Last I checked they were coached by former Bok Klippies Kritzinger)
    Ellisras
    Mogol
    Thabazimbi
    Phagameng

But I suspect most players will come from the craven week squad which is supplied by Pietersburg High,Tom Naude Technical,Merensky,Piet Potgieter,Capricorn High…to name a few.

    Hope that helps.

Limpopo? I smell a Malema equity partner deal here.

Perhaps he’ll become the new Louis Luyt of northern rugby.

it doesn’t matter what the perceived ‘value’ of the VC is… the more the merrier i say… the more competitive players we have at all levels the better it will be for the overall strength of sa rugby…

doesn’t big vic come from pietersberg/polokwane…? even though he made it out of the ‘bush’… there could be other gems that need the VC to display their talents and be identified for the bigger CC/S15 stage…
