Sarries book home play-off

Saracens cemented a home quarter-final tie after their 26-20 comeback victory over Treviso.

After trailing 17-13 against the Italians at half-time, the English Premiership defending champions secured the win with a try via wing David Strettle and the boot of centre Owen Farrell who slotted a conversion and two penalties in the second half. SA-born lock Mouritz Botha scored a try before the break.

The triumph sees Saracens top Pool 5 with five wins from their six group games, and they’ll now host Clermont in the next round. Saracens, who are the only English side left in the European Cup, will host a semi-final should they beat the French club.

In other European Cup results on Sunday, American wing Taku Ngwenya scored a hat-trick in Biarritz’s 36-5 drubbing of Ospreys. Racing Metro suffered their fifth loss of the campaign as they went down 36-30 to Cardiff Blues while Edinburgh sealed top spot in Pool 2 with a 34-11 win over London Irish.

European Cup quarter-finals (played 6 / 7 / 8 April): Munster v Ulster, Leinster v Cardiff, Edinburgh v Toulouse, Saracens v Clermont

    The Aura continues to show-up the muppets (lead by G10)…

    Fact… Saracens have never done better in the HC since the versatile front-rower and legend captain arrived…

    I watched the Saracens – Bairitz game Friday night .. it was poor and Mr. Plod gave away couple high tackle penalties and couple poor passes, he is still plodding around like the plodding palooka that sunk the Boks down to his own mediocre level of incapable incapacity .. its no wonder we been in the doldrums since 2009 we had this plodding palooka weighing us down.

    and WTF anyone is going goo goo ga ga over that very ordinary slow center Bradley Barrit for is still a very vague and far fetched mystery.. the plodder from Durbs just like his cappy marvelous, slow ponderous and a plodding ponce.

    Only decent saffa’s in that side are Ernst Joubert and the lock Botha…. and Schalk Brits when he is on the field.

    @ashampoopaloo-11: You clearly do not know a great deal about center play…

    Barrit is not the type of player who burns others with his pace, but rather uses his hands and vision to create space for others. Also he’s quite robust, so he can win the collisions at inside center. He did exactly that when the Sharks still had him and Waylon Murray playing alongside each other.

    The best center pairing is usually a case of one oke who puts the other into space. That’s why the Bulls future looks good. Francois Venter is great at busting holes and putting guys into space, but he certainly isn’t the quickest bloke around. That’s what Sadie is for and why they’ll develop into a fearsome combo.

    @lepel-14:

    His lack of rugby knowlege has been exposed thousands of times. Plonker’s plonker.

    Barritt is a steady reliable centre. Has been for years and is only getting better,

    Solid in the tackle and never allows his channel to be exposed. What more could you want.
