Gio’s fine, say Stormers

Gio’s fine, say Stormers

Gio Aplon was involved in a car accident but has escaped serious injury.

There were reports on Wednesday morning that the Stormers and Springboks utility back had been involved in a car accident. When keo.co.za contacted the Stormers for more information, they confirmed that the airbags in Aplon’s car had been deployed because of the impact and that team-mate Bryan Habana, who was travelling behind Aplon in his own vehicle, had stopped to help.

The Stormers management later confirmed that aside from a bruised forearm no serious injury had been sustained.

Aplon has been selected to start on the right wing for the Stormers against the Lions this Friday. Despite the accident, he will still play in this warm-up match.

When Bob Skinstad was injured after the Crusaders game in 1999 their was all the speculation that he was injured after a fight with Justin Marshall at the Greenman after the game.
A month or so later whilst filling up at the Engen on the cnr. of Protea and Main the petrol attendent asked me whether I knew Skinstad (I had a Stormers jacket on).
He then confirmed the car accident. He said he was working the night shift at at that garage and at about 3am this black ford Falcon came zig zagging over the bridge and eventually crashed into the side wall.
Skinstad then limped out of the car and a bald head guy in the car behind(I would assume it being Peter Dixon) got out to help him.

Skinstad was never the same player after that accident ( cruciate ligament injury). Could have been the greatest.

I am happy to hear Gio is fine.

Knowing Gio, he probably dodged the airbag.

@the artist formerly known as gunther-6: He’s a Stormer now. So you probably mean he dropped his khakis.

It’s a job for life for the 72kg wing,
    Regardless ;)
Wish him to get back soon, has an invaluable entertaining capacity!
