Wales will be without prop Gethin Jenkins for the early stages of the Six Nations, while flyhalf Rhys Priestland and flanker Dan Lydiate are likely to miss the tournament opener against Ireland.

Jenkins suffered a knee injury while on European Cup duty for the Cardiff Blues against Racing Metro. He skipped Wales’ training trip to Poland this week while he receives treament for his injury. Jenkins is set to be sidelined for four to five weeks and is only expected back for the game against England on 25 February. Prop Paul James is now expected to start.

Head coach Warren Gatland is likely to start James Hook at flyhalf as his first-choice No 10 Priestland is doubtful for their Six Nations opener in Dublin with a knee injury. Flanker Dan Lydiate has a slim chance of recovering from an ankle niggle, but good news for Wales is that centre Jamie Roberts is recovering nicely from a knee injury and is set to be fit.
