Stephan Dippenaar will make his senior debut for the Blitzboks at the Wellington Sevens this weekend.
Head coach Paul Treu has named his final 12-man squad, who will compete at the New Zealand leg of the Sevens World Series. There is only one change to the team that featured at the PE Sevens last December, with debutant Dippenaar replacing Chase Minnaar in the squad. Dippenaar (who missed the first part of the campaign with an ankle injury) will play a versatile role as he can play as a forward up front or a centre/wing in the backline.
Treu is hoping for an impressive finish in Wellington as the Springbok Sevens chase Fiji and New Zealand, who lead the current overall standings.
‘We came very close to winning our own tournament last December in Port Elizabeth and are fully aware that we will have to play even better here in Wellington. New Zealand is a demanding challenge for any rugby team, but we back ourselves to be in Cup contention on Saturday,’ said Treu.
South Africa find themselves in Pool B, which features England, USA and the Cook Islands.
