Shimlas thrashed defending champions UCT 38-10 while Maties, Pukke and Tuks won their matches in the opening round of the Varsity Cup.

Damn good Shimlas team to be fair. 5 players started for them that could be challenging for Cheetahs SR spots.

Had last years Junior Springbok scrumhalf Pieter Rademan on the bench.

Actually the FS rugby union finally decided to take the Varsity Cup serious, and decided to make it on of its priorities this year. Labuschagne and co were all released to play for Shimlas exclusively.

Shimlas will definitely push for a final this season, and from what I’ve seen yesterday they may just do it.

Wow! That game was played at serious pace!

Only strange thing when I checked the roster yesterday is that Shimlas have all the ‘easier’ games (UJ, TUT, NMMU) at home and all the bigger teams away.

You gotta wonder who set up the fixtures.

Is the new points system (3 for a conversion, 2 for a penalty) working or is still too early to call?
