Davies slapped with hefty ban

Wales lock Bradley Davies has been hit with a seven-week ban for a tip tackle in last week’s clash with Ireland.

Davies was yellow-carded in Sunday’s Six Nations Test for an illegal tackle on Ireland lock Donnacha Ryan. The tackle was similar to the one that earned Wales captain Sam Warburton a red card in the 2011 World Cup semi-final against France.

On this occasion, however, the transgression didn’t cost Wales the match but it will mean that Davies will be unavailable for the remainder of the Six Nations. After being cited for the tackle, Davies was banned for seven weeks at a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Ireland flank Stephen Ferris has been cleared of a dangerous tackle in the same Test.
