Blitzboks off to winning start

The Blitzboks beat Uruguay and Wales in their first two matches on day one of the Las Vegas Sevens.

In their 29-12 win over Wales, the Springbok Sevens found themselves behind early in the game as Lee Williams scored a try. However, skipper Kyle Brown and IRB Sevens Player of the Year Cecil Afrika gave South Africa a 12-7 half-time advantage with scores before the break.

Afrika starred in the second half, completing his hat-trick while Frankie Horne also dived over to seal the win. Rhys Sellard grabbed Wales’ second try three minutes after the restart.

Earlier in the day, the Springbok Sevens thrashed Uruguay 35-0.

It was an easy outing for Paul Treu’s charges as they cruised to victory with five tries. Afrika grabbed a brace while Cornal Hendricks, Horne and Bernado Botha finished off the one-sided contest.

South Africa and France will face off in the Pool C decider later tonight.

    Come Bokkies.

The 7′s Boks could definitely teach their 15 counterparts a thing or two about handling skills.

Strange, when I joined this site A G E S ago, Dawn was considered to be somewhat of an a s s…

However, these days she is one of the few voices of reason, shows how this site has regressed…

Nope. She’s still considered an a ss.

Since I’ve been on this site she has never once made a single contribution to any ruby related article.

carol, Treehugger and Springboksarah have more rugby insight than this troll by a long shot.

Sydney – Clyde Rathbone has turned down the opportunity to make a ”fairytale” Super Rugby comeback after a secret approach from Brumbies coach Jake White.

While the former Test winger will officially decline White’s invitation on Monday, Rathbone has not ruled out the possibility of returning to professional rugby in coming years.

BLUE BULLS TO LOSE THEIR DAISY?

    from news24

Cape Town – The Barberton daisy and the light blue colours of Northern Gauteng’s sports teams are under renewed threat from politicians.

The Tshwane Sports Council (TSC), which was formed under suspicious circumstances two years ago, will on 31 March officially become the governing body of sport in the Tshwane region.

And according to the Beeld newspaper this new council is keen to replace the daisy and light blue colours with a more representative emblem and colours.

The daisy has been prominent on the Blue Bulls rugby team’s jerseys for years and feature on most of Northern Gauteng sports teams’ shirts.

“All sports codes in the region would have to conform to the TSC’s constitution,” a well-informed source told Beeld.

“Even though the Blue Bulls and Bulls emblems are registered trademarks, there will definitely be political pressure for only one sports emblem to be used for sports teams.”

The Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU) and the Notherns Cricket Union (Titans) have already indicated they are against this new proposition.

Elise Lombard, CEO of Northerns, said the daisy is the team’s registered trademark.

Chaka Croukamp, vice-president of the BBRU said it doesn’t make sense from a commercial point of view to change the team’s registered trademark.

“It is the union’s registered trademark and is known worldwide.”

Twenty-eight sports codes have already indicated that they do not support the new proposition.

In 2010 the Tshwane Sports Council made five suggestions – all with the colours white, black, yellow and green – to replace the light blue.

    Agg nonsense.

Local councils have no say what colours a local sports team plays in.

Are they going to tell sundowns to change their colours?

I know a little boy with too much time on his hands.

Hougaard showing why he should have played every game at 9 instead of prima donna Fourie Du Preez. Chili showing how much better he would have been as a sub off bench with Bismark starting instead of the palooka Smit who coughed up the WC on a plate.

Greyling, Kruger, Stander, Goosen, Sadie all showing glimpses of promising Bok potential.

Jeandre Kruger showing why Matfield won’t be missed. Stander better than Spies at 8. Sadie better the Oliver, so too Venter at 12..

With Hougaard, Goosen, De Jongh, Venter, Sadie, Engelbrecht, Basson, Jansen, Taute

  • 46.the artist formerly known as gunther: Reply to this comment

Let me make it clear for you buddy.

I was saying that there is no basis for the local goverment to make a local sportsteam play in certain colours (especially when they are a political party).

The anc would see its large yellow green and black arse in court sooner than you could say mshiniwam.

This is just another case of a fatcatcunt trying to deflect from their inability to deliver and general larceny.

    Nothing new.

Like I said a little boy with too much time on their hands who finds it easier to take pot shots at the bulls than serve the good people of Pretoria.

    Simples.
