Paris cracker postponed

Freezing temperatures forced the postponement of the Six Nations Test between France and Ireland.
The pitch froze and the referee Dave Pearson deemed conditions unsafe for play, much to the frustration of a 80 000-strong crowd. Pearson’s initial assessment 90 minutes before kick-off was that it was ready for play. However, the temperature dropped quickly and the pitch was rock hard as the teams waited to exit the tunnel.
‘The referee had to take the decision and it was tough for one man to do it,’ Ireland coach Declan Kidney told the BBC. ‘In fairness it was the right decision. The players were pumped up but it will be a new experience for them.
‘The game will be rearranged – next week might be a bit tight, but it’s up to the Six Nations to decide. They are on the phone now. We will have to talk about it. I wouldn’t like to guess.’

Why schedule such a late kick off when the country is in the middle of a freezing cold spell? Surely an afternoon game would have been able to go ahead. This was scheduled for an 8pm kick off, if I’m not mistaken.
