Halfpenny hammers Scots

Leigh Halfpenny scored a brace and kicked 12 points to help Wales to a resounding 27-13 victory over Scotland on Sunday.

There were times during the first half where Scotland threatened to take control of this game, but the Welsh just seemed to grow stronger as the match progressed. They produced an outstanding defensive display to deny Scotland a try right on half-time, and racked up 24 points in the third quarter to secure the result.

The Welsh ball-carriers proved difficult to contain during this period, and Scotland often resorted to illegal tactics in an attempt to stall the hosts’ momentum. Nick de Luca and Rory Lamont were sin-binned for professional fouls which only served to aid Wales’ attacking cause.

Scotland hit back with a late try through flyhalf Greig Laidlaw, and showed more urgency and control when restored to their full complement. But the Wales defence remained resolute as the clock wound down and Scotland were ultimately made to regret that terrible third quarter.

Well played Wales, you threatened to blow Scotland away but thankfully that never happened and the Scots stuck to it.

Good game to watch, but yet another game of whatif for the Jocks. There’s a few youngsters coming through now and it may not be too long before the corner is turned.

    I have to be honest

I was at the game and the atmosphere was wack… apart from the welsh tries and the pressure plays where fans got interested the stadium got pretty quiet and I was in the front row and sometimes during the match which had 73,000 people there was hardly any noise

Compared with November 2010 Wales v Boks the atmosphere then was a very buzzing atmosphere apart form the stupid small bunch of S.A supporters who choose to shout during the rememberance day silence but thats another matter.

What I’m saying is that the rivalry in rugby means alot… I watched Wales v England a few years back and Ive never experienced such an atmosphere anywhere in my life.. but today it was a good game but the atmosphere could have been better… well done Wales.

The buzz in Wales these days seems to be the best for many years. I recon they can clean house this season if they keep the effort going. They have a pretty good squad. I think Scotland are still in need of at least twelve “International Class” player for their squad of twenty two, some of the guys are not earning their buck. Some of them are trying hard, but I feel for Andy R, I’m pretty sure he will be having a few harsh words with the guys today.

@Grizz-4: Well imo and many in the southern hemisphere wales was one of the best teams at the world cup , and in my unbaised kiwi opinion , wales would have been hard to handle in the final ( so unfortunate in the semis)
