Lions bash ‘Border Kings’
14 Feb 2012
The Lions thrashed a Southern Kings side made up mostly of Border players 88-0 on Tuesday night after leading 40-0 at the break.
The visitors scored 13 tries, with Derick Minnie, Deon van Rensburg, Cobus Grobbelaar, Elton Jantjies and Callie Visagie all getting a brace. Jantjies also kicked nine conversions to finish with a personal haul of 28 points.
The Kings were always going to struggle without all of their EP players and most of their SWD players (SWD’s Vodacom Cup side played WP in a curtain-raiser before the Kings match), and two yellow cards early in the second half didn’t help their cause.
A full-strength Kings side, coached by Alan Solomons, will take on the Sharks at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday evening. The last time this team took to the field they lost 16-12 to the Bulls.

@PissAnt-99:
Interesting.
So Andy Marinos couldn’t dominate negotiations with two partners that respectively bring in 25% and 12.5% of the income, compared to our own 62.5%?
He is either completely incompetent, or got some “facilitation fees” to motivate him into selling us down the river.
Clown.

@capebull-78: how much planning time do you think SARU needs? the Spears franchise was created in 2005 ALREADY, we are in 2012 now!
if SARU were genuine or were not influenced by some of the current franchises who are playing kak and not even profitable the Spears/Kings project would be up and running now!
7 years later the so-called “BIG UNIONS” are still banding together to say “we want to maintain our monopoly”
it is SARU’s responsiblity to take the licences, restructure the franchises as they see fit and tell the unions to get with it.

@Tacitus-101: Or, alternatively, was totally restricted in his authority by the other morons that actually made the decisions.

This huge pharking mess is courtesy of SARU’s ineptitude coupled with the brain-dead amateurism of the Union’s.
But this nonsense about hiding behind broadcast contracts is tosh. Contracts are renegotiated all the time. If our “friends” in the Oz/NZ cabal showed some goodwill and SANZAR approached the broadcaster with a new format, there’s no reason why a change couldn’t be incorporated in 2013.
Of course, our Oz/NZ “friends” are less than inclined to show such goodwill and even if they did, we’d have to bend lower and spread our Cheeky Watsons even wider.

@Transformation-102: Exactly I am saying SARU are a bunch of …..
They have no idea what they are doing:
“We are going to include Kings in s15 in 2013″
” We don’t have aclue how we are going to do that”
” Lets ask the teams that will have to sacrafice their place in S15, how to do it”
Crazy

It is very dissapointing to see such a credible sport news site reporting unresearched news and making it a selling news story. Your headlines of your Lions/Kings story is totaly wrong and infact your whole story is just is filled with inaccurate information. I kindly asky your journalist to please do more investigation before printing the story.
Facts:
Only 3 Bulldogs players were in the starting line up. (Gareth, Vuyo and Matthew)
Two EP Players ((Monty, Stick)
All other 11 players are from SWD
You should also inform us the public which of the players recieved yellow cards and not just report unfinished and uniformative stories.
I am sick and tired of your negetive reporting. Get your facts straight!!!!!

So now that great architect of recurring rugby disaster, Alan Solomons, plans to recruit a lot of European players to shore up his currently crumbling coaching edifice… What about all that black EP talent and 40000 registered players?
88-0.
