Bulls lose Potgieter

Bulls loose forward Dewald Potgieter will miss the opening two months of Super Rugby after undergoing surgery on Sunday.

The Bulls said in a statement that Potgieter suffered multiple cuts to his arm in a freak accident and was operated on to repair the damage.

Potgieter only recently returned from an ankle injury and was set to be the starting blindside flank for the Pretoria franchise.

‘Dewald worked very hard to get back in shape and ready for Super Rugby, so it is a setback to him and to the team. He was going to be an important cog in our loose trio combinations, but we are blessed to have some good depth in that position,’ coach Frans Ludeke said.

big loss, love this guys attitude to the game.

has been very unlucky with injury the past 18 months.

hopefully it all works out for the best as it will be a very long season and every side will need reinfircements to arrive later on.

I somehow don’t think it was rugby related.

#6 That’s what friends of the family are for. I believe he tried to open a window that was stuck shut, he used some force and pushed with his flat hand against the opening casement. The glass pane broke under the force and his arm went through the opening and was cut by some glass shards, servering three tendons and severely lacerating the muscles in his right upper forearm.

Fortunately, there was no harm to any nerves or arteries and the operation to re-join the tendons was a great success. He can start rehab in two weeks and should he matchfit in six weeks if all goes well. He is a very lucky young man. Moral of the story kids- when an opening closes for you, leave it be and take another gap.

#3 Brigadier, he lives like he plays his rugby- full taps and with a passion. He worked very hard, and gained 8kg’s in the off season- looked impressive against the Cheetahs for a guy coming back after a long lay-off.

Changing a light bulb and forgot the ceiling fan was on?

Doing the trademark 80′s turn around with arms outstretched dance move whilst listening to Simple Minds and accidentally smashed his kitchen sliding door?

    It’s a mystery to me.

Or it could be what Ogre said.

    :)

    Hope he’s OK. I’m a fan.

Well, big opportunity for Arno Botha, Jacques Potgieter and CJ Stander.

I feel really sorry for Dewald. This injury comes at a bad time for him personally.

Already under pressure due to his perceived lack of size and physicality, he has worked hard in the off season and picked up 8kg’s in weight.

He is a fighter, and will no doubt come back, but this might just be the foot in the door that some of the brilliantly talented youngsters like CJ Stander and Arno Botha need to establish themselves as starting options at no.7.

The situation in 2 months time might be quite different for Dewald, with CJ or Arno settled into the starting 15.

Anyway, I hope he recovers fully and will be ready to slot in in the second half of the tournament.

    Good luck, Dewald.

    Eish, Slangkos.

I know many around here dont share my view but you are one of the most intelligent loose forwards in the game, would love to see you back in the Bok jersey in the near future.

    Good luck.
