UWC break CUT’s hot streak
20 Feb 2012
UWC picked up a massive 37-23 win over defending champions CUT in the fifth round of the Varsity Shield.
The victory sees the students from Bellville surge to the top of the log. It was their third bonus-point triumph of the season – and their second at home. CUT trailed 25-18 at half-time, but they couldn’t improve after the break and fell to their first defeat of the year. The students from Bloemfonetin now drop to third spot in the standings.
In the other result, Wits relied on the boot of flyhalf Kyle Peyper, who kicked eight points in the second half to seal an 18-10 win over UKZN in Pietermaritzburg.
