Sickly Smal ordered to rest
24 Feb 2012
Gert Smal will play no further part in Ireland’s Six Nations campaign due to a medical condition.
It is believed that the Ireland forwards coach has an existing condition affecting his eye sight which has been exacerbated over the last week. Smal is currently receiving treatment and has been advised by doctors to rest. He won’t be back before the end of the present Six Nations tournament.
Ireland Wolfhounds and Munster forwards coach Anthony Foley will replace Smal in the interim.

Can it be a detached retina hence “rest” is strongly advised?
If so he will be over it pretty soon. Not much time left ,in any case, to the NH international tourney; just a few weeks now.
