Sadie blow for Bulls

Sadie blow for Bulls

Bulls centre Johann Sadie will miss at least three weeks of Super Rugby.

Sadie was substituted 14 minutes into the Bulls’ opening match against the Sharks at Loftus and appeared to be in some distress. It has been established that the 21-year-old has injured the AC joint in his left shoulder.

‘He will be out for at least three weeks,’ Bulls doctor Org Strauss told keo.co.za.

The blow is a significant one for the Bulls, who are thin on midfield cover after losing Stephan Dippenaar and Stefan Watermeyer to Sevens and the Ospreys respectively. Jaco Pretorius was forced to retire due to persistent injuries.

However, there was good news on Wynand Olivier, who has been recovering from a hand injury. The No 12 will be available for selection for the Cheetahs match this weekend.

If Sadie’s AC joint was injured enough to get him off th efield immediately, I highly doubt it will be just 3 weeks. Matfield had a similar problem when they dropped him on his shoulder in 2010.
I injured my AC liont too, took me mounths and months, and it still never was the same.

Shame poor Sadie, ag boetie, climb into that hyperbaric chamber and eat a small farm and get well soon.

Maybe Kirchner will be starting at 13 now, that would certainly mean better cover at 15.

the bulls didn’t lose watermeyer & dippenaar, heyneker meyer told them they’re useless & told them to bounce.

    Comeon Trance, that’s not true.

Anyways, good for both of them, we have enough in reserve, wouldn’t mind seeing Francois Hougaard a 13 either, like the 2010 CC when he was ripping up the field there.

No worries, new team, lots of nerves, new experience for them, gotta get the eyes in, and then it will be one Blue stampede after another.

Sad to hear but he is a bit injury prone.Meyer duped the Bulls into paying millions for Sadie.Got as feeling it’s going to end bad for all parties concerned. While in rehab he might learn what the word ‘humility’ means. It certainly doesn’t mean to bad mouth your former team.

Pity for Sadie, amd well done to the Bulls for the victory , no it wasnt pretty but a win is a win , end of the day the score is all that is remembered, well thats the norm,

I remember some clowns in here blamming JPP for Sades injury , a total load of crock , Sadie himself said he fell badly

as for my Sharks?? yhey have only themselves to blame for the loss!

    Actually, Trannie’s pretty much correct.

Watermeyr and Dippenaar didn’t cut it.

  • 11.Tacitus: Reply to this comment

Vermaak to 9 and Hougaard to 13.

  • 12.ashampoopaloo: Reply to this comment

Watermeyer was decent inside center should have kept him actively involved.. Dippy Dippenaar was only good for seven’s

Kirchner will be kak at 13 as much as he is kak at 15, Sadie started believing some his own overblown hype, now he gonna have to cool off in the cooler incubator and start all over from scratch..

Thas how it goes thas how it blows in the blow torch cauldron.

Or else give Engelbrecht an extended run at 13, to settle into the position. It might be that he is suited to the position in the long term.

    @Tacitus(Deucalion)-13:

I doubt whether Engelbrecht has the skills to play at number 13- he is an out and out finisher who hardly ever passes the ball- his lack of skills in general play was the main reason why AC preferred the more solid but less exciting Poolman ahead of him last season.

Having said that, I do rate Engelbrecht as a wing- he should score quite a few tries for the Bulls this season.

But he is no Shadow- it was a good swop for us imo.

    @Robzim(Robzim)-14:

When have 13′s in SA been good passers of the ball? Mostly, they are just strong runners and hard tacklers.

    Andre Snyman
    Japie Mulder
    Jacque Fourie
    Marius Joubert

    You name them.

Mostly the outside centre in SA just runs into a gap that someone else created for him, or he takes the outside gap after running a good line.

Engelbrecht could do this as well as most. It is the defensive coordination that I would be more concerned about, but he is a hard individual defender. It is just the cohesion that needs to be developed with his centre partner.

Certainly, he should be more effective at 13 than Kirchner.

You have a point but the names you mentioned all had more natural ball skills and awareness of players around them then Engelbrecht who seems to suffer from “white line fever”.

Old Danie Gerber used to be able to pass quite well- he could even play flyhalf- but then again, he was a once in a lifetime player .

But Engelbrecht is still young, lets see- i just have my doubts.

Strangely enough he was the one Bull back who I always rated highly – since I saw him scoring an amazing try for Tukkies versus maties at Stellenbosch a few years back during a varsity cup game- therefore i was quite chuffed when he decided to move to CT.

Shadow fitting in very nicely at Stormers thank you.. I think he’s actually enjoying being part of a group of players who prefer to involve each other in a more synchronized type of assault and effort, rather than the Bulls like for one general (FdP) putting his one or two strike runners away into space and scything through the opposition..

Joe Pietersen, Aplon and Vd Heever seem to be gelling very nicely together as a combined unit, and VD Heever has the size and bulk the other 2 lack, so its actually a very nice coordinated unit of a back three division..

    @Robzim(Robzim)-17:

I haven’t seen enough of Engelbrecht to comment about his “white line fever”, although as a wing up to now, he was supposed to go for the line when he got the ball.

Anyway, we didn’t buy him as a centre, but may have to shift him there in the short term.

And given the shortage of quality centres in SA at the moment, he might well make a better career out of it than having to compete with all the wings that seem to be popping up all over the show.

    Regarding vd Heever.

He is a great attacking player, and has a knack for scoring tries.

Seems to have got a bit “dikker” in the *** though, since a couple of years ago, so not too sure about his conditioning.

Outside center and wing should be interchangeable positions in rugby

similar type assets and qualities required by both players, that why Jacque Fourie started out at FB / Wing and converted to 13, Bryan Habana started at Lions at 13 and converted to 11 at Bulls, JPP played FB and wing and is now playing 13, Terblanche played equally capably both positions, JdV has played 12, 13 and 14, so too Frans Steyn 10, 12, 13, 14, 15

JJ Engelbrecht could definitely acquire the skills sets to play at 13 and could become very efficient there..

I would transfer JdV immediately to 13 at Stormers he is no good at 12, we must switch them around and play De Jongh / P. Grant at 12 and JdV at 13 with Habana off bench because Pietersen, Aplon and Vd Heever is working a treat, and Habana is not…

    Stormers backs

    J. Pietersen, Vd Heever, JdV, De Jongh, Van Aswegen, Duvenhage

    Schreuder, Grant, Habana off bench..

whatever Bulls gonna do remains to be seen but they got young Visser and Fouche to complement Kirchner, Basson, Engelbrecht, Ndungane, Venter, Steyn and Hougaard, and I wouldn’t be in a hurry to throw Olivier in there because I reckon he spoils the party.. if anything Olivier must go to 13 and leave Venter alone at 12..

    @ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-23:

According to Beeld, Ludeke is seeing the doctor tomorrow with Olivier to find out if he will be ready to play on Saturday. If he is, he will slot in at 13 next to Venter who had a very satisfactory debut for a youngster.

Personally, I’d give Olivier another week to recover, as the Cheetahs have lost their centre as well and will have a new midfield combination too. So we don’t have to risk Olivier if he isn’t quite ready yet.

I’d go with either Engelbrecht or Hougaard at 13.

  • 25.ashampoopaloo: Reply to this comment

That dikheid in Vd Heever’s nether regions is just what the doctor ordered for No.14 style play.. its just what Stormers need too we need a big dik powerful runner like we used to have in Neil Burger and some others, and what Ray Mordt, etc used to bring to the Bok party, thats why Rassie fell in love with Nakalakukkivuki, only Vd Heever is head and shoulders streaks better than that overrated behemoth..

Hehehe. “Dikheid in the nether regions”.

So I’m not the only one who noticed it.

Do yourself a favour and check out the youtube clip of the brilliant long range individual try vd Heever scored against the Highlanders in 2010.

He’s most certainly packed on a few pounds since then.

Jaque Fourie was a centre while at school. After school the Lions moved him to fullback, their mistake.

I see van den heever got a bit of an “alternative” hairstyle these days too- i hope his parents knew what they were doing when they allowed him to leave the relative safety of Pretoria for the” decadency” of CT.

  • 31.ashampoopaloo: Reply to this comment

Ja Vd Heever used to be a lot faster back in 2010 and more sleek and gazelle like super sprinter, but like so many athletes who try out at rugby, you need some weight and bulk to bolster the big hits and bust through the tackles, that’s why George North, Jamie Roberts, Ray Mordt, Jaco Reinach, John Kirwin, Jonah Lomu, Caucau all effective big ball carrying backs and wings

I don’t mind Vd Heever sacrificing some his outright straight line speed for some bulk and power which we sorely need.. we got enough nimble able twinkle toe runners in Pietersen and Aplon, or Habana, what we need is a big fast locomotive who can break some tackles and vd Heever can become one our best assets in that dept. this year.. He could suddenly become recognized as a true able No14 wing

    Decadence.

Yes. Personally I don’t think the move was the best one he could have made. But he made his choices.

I think he needs the discipline that the Bulls setup would have enforced on him. Not sure the relaxed atmosphere and its conduciveness for prima donna development – see Habana, De Villiers, Fourie, Burger, Bekker etc. – is what a young man in his position really needs right now.

Poolman is more of a bruiser type slower wing, while Engelbrecht more elusive open runner, though he’s big he’s not as bulky .. with Vd Heever packing on some weight and muscle we could get the best out of both aspects, a big and bulky AND fast wing…

Playing wingers at centre hardly ever is a success, should only be done in “emergency cover” situation or as a desparate attempt to prolong a players career.

  • 41.willievz: Reply to this comment

@ashampoopaloo(joel1yahoo)-23: Outside center and wing are certainly interchangeable. Same with other backline positions one channel apart.

JPP had an excellent game on the weekend – usually on the wing he is very lazy, and 13 forces him to be part of the action in greater capacity. Very skilled and strong backline player, which is what you need in the closer channels.

Gerhard v d Heever – the main culprit for the Bulls not to make the semi’s (CC) last year. He was hondk@k against Griquas. In all fairness he did not chose himself at 15, that honours go to Ludeke.
Gerhard lost a lot of confidence after he missed out of the Bok team end of 2010. In 2011 he was not on par – both attack and defense. Good luck to him, maybe he can regain his “old” form.

Regarding Sadie, Heyneke obviously saw some talent and with Jean / Jaque / Juan / Whitehead there at that stage, Sadie realised that he will get guarenteed game time at the Bulls.

I really hope that Ludeke will consider Hougaard at 13. Olivier won’t be fit. Rather bring back JP Nel from Japan!!!! Tough, old school centre :)
