Rebels skipper ruled out

Stirling Mortlock won’t be risked in the Rebels’ opening game against the Waratahs because of a calf injury.

The Rebels captain was listed as doubtful last week, and now coach Damian Hill has decided that Mortock hasn’t made sufficient progress with his injury. Mitch Inman is likely to start in Mortlock’s place at outside centre.

Adam Freier is expected to start ahead of hooker Ged Robinson, who is also battling with a calf injury.

The good news for the Rebels is that Kurtley Beale is recovering well from a hamstring injury and should start against the Waratahs.
