Clermont reel in Toulouse
3 Mar 2012
Clermont cut Toulouse’s lead at the top of the French Top 14 table to four points with a 35-5 victory over them.
The two are well ahead of the chasing pack and it appears likely that the title winner will come from one of them. South African flank Gehard Vosloo shone for Clermont, slowing and stealing possession regularly, while there was also a try for Brent Russell.
In other matches, Racing Metro scored a narrow 22-21 win over Bayonne, Agen beat Perpignan 22-17, Brive eased past Stade Francais 25-9, Biarritz thumped Bordeaux 38-13 and Castres shared a 6-6 draw with Lyon.
Meanwhile in England, Michael Claassens scored two tries in Bath’s 36-17 victory over Worcester. The former Cheetahs scrumhalf was excellent all round and was central to Bath’s success. There were also wins for Exeter over Sale and Wasps over London Irish.

Dragon Russell on a scoring streak these days. We need players like this in the bok squad rather than slow, predictable JdVs…
