Sarries snap losing streak

Saracens beat Northampton 18-12 in Watford to avoid a third consecutive defeat in the English Premiership.

The defending champions picked up the crucial win thanks to flyhalf Charlie Hodgson, who slotted six penalties. The Northampton Saints could only reply with four penalties of their own through flyhalf Stephen Myler and replacement back Ryan Lamb.

Saracens now trail table leaders Harlequins by four log points with five league fixtures remaining before the play-offs.

In the earlier Sunday match, the Leicester Tigers eased to a 36-3 victory over Gloucester at Welford Road to hold on to third place in the standings. The hosts scored five tries, while flyhalf Toby Flood added 11 points with the boot (four conversions and one penalty).
