Careless Danny in hot water again
5 Mar 2012
England scrumhalf Danny Care has been arrested for his third alcohol-related incident in three months.
Care was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after urinating against a building in Leeds. According to a statement by the scrumhalf, who is already serving a ban for a previous alcohol-related transgression, the police arrested and cautioned him after literally catching him with his pants down.
‘After an evening out with friends in the centre of Leeds, after a long time queuing, I was in a taxi home when I got caught short and asked the taxi driver to pull over so I could relieve myself behind a nearby building,’ he said. ‘The British Transport Police found me doing that and took me to the nearest police station where I was released with a caution.
‘I understand the link that will be made to previous offences but, as with my fine in December in Weybridge, the issue is more one of a small bladder than excessive drinking. I am working hard on and off the pitch to overcome my issues and while this is another small setback I will continue to do that.’
Care was axed from England’s Six Nations squad after being charged for a drink-driving incident on New Year’s Eve. Prior to that, he was arrested in London after a European Cup game between Harlequins and Toulouse.
The latest incident happened after Harlequins’ 9-9 draw with Newcastle.
