Pumas pull in Henry
7 Mar 2012
Former World Cup winning New Zealand coach Graham Henry has been hired as Argentina’s technical consultant.
The Pumas will participate for the first time in what has become the Rugby Championship, competing against South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. The move is a major coup for Argentina, who are expected to be able to pick from their best players.
Henry will work closely with head coach Santiago Phelan on analysis and tactics as well as with the UAR’s High Performance department to help improve coaching and planning.
‘Argentina’s entry into the championship will be exciting but at the same time a massive challenge,’ said Henry at a press conference in Buenos Aires.
‘It will be a big test to compete against the three top-ranked teams in the world. During seven weeks of the year, my role will be to offer help in creating a nationwide programme that will enable the UAR’s leading coaches to build a more competitive national team.
‘I hope that my eight years of experience of coaching in the Tri-Nations can help me to make a difference in my new role.’

you hardly need a Master to tame the whinging Yappie underlings
an Ewok could do it blindfold.

And Investec are trying to create a local replica of Murray Mexted’s brilliant International Rugby Academy of New Zealand (IRANZ) by duplicating it. With who in charge?
Oh no! Not the dreaded uberfailure Drick Muir?
What WERE they thinking/drinking?

Looking forward to the Pumas breathing some new life into Rugby Championship. I know they are dreading the thought they may become the new Italy of the Championship, but I think they will surprise everyone including themselves.

They might have a hard time in the championship for the first few years, but it would improve the quality of their rugby and their team would benefit to play more games together than before
They’ve always punched above their weight at the RWC so they might be even more dangrous at the next one

80mins is all it takes
just ask any 2nd-rate English club side.

@victoriabok(victoriabok)-6:
The Pumas have an obstacle to overcome from the get go, that is the logistical burden of selecting a team from the 70 or so professional players based in Europe. That task maybe eased if and when they get a Super Franchise.
Yes they have punched above their weight at RWC and the Abs have struggled against them in BUENOS AIRES.

Watch the Pumas lose all 6 matches and Henry blame everyone else except for himself. Rubbish coach.
8 Mar 2012, 06:04 am
I don’t believe the ABs have ever lost to the Pumas.
I do know they have drawn with them once in BA whilst winning the 5 other matches they have played there, not sure how this equates to struggling?
Sure there were some close affairs but at the end of the day a win is all that matters.

Oh dear seems someone has put on his Angry pants today.
Such a rubbish coach with one of if not the best coaching records going around in the modern era. time to suck it up HongKong Fooey

@Sir Rugga(Sir Rugga)-11: Made to look good by having the most amazing crop of players. He will be exposed immediately in Argentina.

Good for GH and the pumas! Nothing worse than seeing a great RWC winning coach do nothing after winning the medal. What a waste it is for rugby when the coaches do something outside the game when they’re scared of tarnishing their coaching record.

It’s pro rugby. Have skills, will travel to the highest bidder.
8 Mar 2012, 08:05 am
This must be the coup of the century…. Not sure how much hands on coaching he ll be doing, but if it s anything substantial, the Puma s now probably have the best coaching staff of all the SH teams… GH was the mastermind behind the AB domination i feel
8 Mar 2012, 08:23 am
Graham Henry will not be doing any hands on coaching with the players.
He is simply there to mentor the coaches as Steve Tew announced today

Yes struggled to win

He’s going up in the world.

@Te Rangatira(Te Rangatira)-20:
33-10 Abs won, sure dont sound like they struggled.
Argies put up a good fight and at one point all thre ABs could get was kicks at goal, which suggests how much the Argie were infringing, stopping the AB power.
In the end it was no struggle.

@HongKongSlong(HongKongSlong)-9:
You call Henry rubbish, yet i havnt seen a coach that comes close to his record.
My understanding over the last few years, actually being told on here is that the Boks have the best players, just a rubbish coach.
Now you are saying we have the players but had a rubbish coach.
Seems like the RWC has messed with your thinking.

@Hurricane(Hurricane)-22:
Abs v Pumas in Buenos Aires
33 – 10
21 – 21
28 – 14
24 – 20
25 – 19
Scores would suggest somewhat of struggle
9 Mar 2012, 00:55 am
@Te Rangatira(Te Rangatira)-24:
Oh i thought you were all talking about RWC.
Pumas are no push overs. As you have so nicely put on the ABvs Puma scorelines.
Remember we dont play all our games there and one of those scorelines is when we played Irelnad in NZ, so we actually had 2 teams, one in NZ playing Ireland while the other one went to Argentina.
Anyway, they are close scorelines, probably closer than what the Boks have done against the ABs of late

Argies 1st scalp will be PrickBok, grilled on the asado as scraps to feed their Patagonian mountin’ dogs.
If they’ll eat it.

@Hurricane(Hurricane)-25:
When I think of Buenos Aires my mind always goes back to Bryan Mcgratton and Scott Chricton, I think brawling with Tucuman.

Nope, if they play in Buenos Aires and get their famous bajada scrum firing they’ll eat the Wallabies

@Te Rangatira(Te Rangatira)-27:
Ahh Tucuman, one of the dirtiest teams ever, their only goal was to win the fight
They were banned to play against touring teams for quite a few years

Buck Shelford’s Maori side were taken aback by their unsavoury tactics and the game was a series of rolling brawls.Buck became sick of their nonsense and he and the team walked.
9 Mar 2012, 07:25 am
@Te Rangatira(Te Rangatira)-30:
Buck Shelford walked off?
Would never have believed it, a guy that went off with one ba-ll hanging out, that had his nut sack stiched up without aneastetic next to the field, after having already lost four teeth, to continue playing nearly rhe whole second half and then were forced to leave the field in a test against the Frogs with concussion?
Why, had he already killed all the Tucuman players?
Have your say
