Racing down Bordeaux

Racing Metro scored a 22-13 victory over Bordeaux in a Top 14 match on Friday.

Fullback Gaetan Germain kicked five penalties for Racing, the last three-pointer giving the hosts a slender two-point lead in the 75th minute.

They had battled to breach the Bordeaux defence right up until the closing stages, and a converted try two minutes from time ultimately lent the scoreline a less than reflective look.

Frans Steyn started at outside centre while No 8 Jacques Cronje and lock Francois van der Merwe fronted in the hosts’ pack.

Steyn produced some neat touches and at one stage launched a drop-goal attempt from his own half. The shot was not short on distance but drifted wide of the posts.
