Queen’s, Grey PE shine at Graeme festival

Queen’s and Grey PE were the top performers at the Graeme College Rugby Day on Saturday.

Most of the top schools in the Eastern Cape region were on show at Graeme College, who hosted their 15th annual rugby festival. Queen’s thumped Muir College 75-3 in the biggest win of the day, while Grey PE started their tenure under new coach Rory Duncan with a 32-6 victory over Hudson Park.

There were also wins for P.J. Olivier, Die Brandwag, Dale and Nico Malan during the entertaining event.

Graeme's Angelo Frazer against Nico Malan

‘We were disappointed with the wet conditions in the morning, which disrupted the teams, but the weather cleared up in the early afternoon and we saw some top matches,’ tournament director Nico van der Meulen told Schoolboy Derby. ‘A crowd of about 5 000 showed up, which created a great day of schoolboy rugby.

‘Queen’s were the best team of the festival as they played really well in their big win, while Framesby impressed in the feature match against St Andrew’s. Grey PE also showed huge promise … they’ll be tough to beat.’
