Reds rocked by injury
19 Mar 2012
The Reds will be down to their fourth-choice flyhalf when they face the Bulls this Saturday.
With Wallabies playmaker Quade Cooper recovering from a long-term knee injury, the Reds had been using Mike Harris in the first-receiver channel. However, Harris injured his hamstring in last Saturday’s match against the Sharks, as did third-choice flyhalf Ben Lucas. The Reds finished that match with scrumhalf Will Genia standing in the No 10 channel.
Harris and Lucas will be out for three weeks and have returned to Brisbane. Coach Ewen McKenzie will be forced to start Jono Lance or Dallan Murphy at flyhalf at Loftus Versfeld. Joel Rapana and Nathan Eyres-Brown have also been called up to join the team in South Africa.

Very sad to watch the Aussie team struggling for 10′s.
Will still be a force nonetheless.

Don’t underestimate these guys in this situation. The Stormers were in a similar boat last year and the boys rose to the occasion. Adversity often ignites a team especially on tour.

I’m picking them to go with Dallan Murphy at 10, with Anthony Faingaa back into the centres with Tapuai if fit. Lance in with Tapuai if Faingaa is still injured.
I still think they should be starting Lance at fullback. Morahan and Davies are weak defenders, and have both missed some crucial tackles, one in Morahan’s case that cost them the game.
Lance would bring a much tougher edge to the back three, allowing Morahan Davies and Shipperley to focus on finding holes in attack.
Have your say
